A seller near me is selling this polo Ralph Lauren jacket made from a deer leather. I always thought PRL leathers were pretty bad (far from RRL), but by the looks of

A hat like that is still cool. It has character. It's been places. And the color contrasts are great!

A wider brim Resistol fedora is on a lot of people’s lists. Those are great hats and while I don’t like moth damage it’s just something we accept when buying vintage hats. Your Resistol looks great.

Nice find, David. Shame about the moth wear. Then again, it just shows they have as great a taste in hats as we do :)

It's still a desirable Resistol. They're among my favourite American hatmakers.

I agree. Would I prefer a hat without moth damage? Sure. But if it's there, it's not going to keep me from wearing a hat if I like it enough. As GuitarGuy wrote, it's character.
Thanks all. This hat definitely makes me want to go back and read through the old Resistol threads and learn more about this era of the company. The design, colors and materials are just beautiful.

The good: I just got this hat that I think is the most beautiful hat I own. I’ve never liked brown hats much but this color combo just blew me away. I also have always wanted a 1940s Resistol non-Western fedora ala the Bogie ads. It’s a beautiful thing, fits perfectly (self-conforming!) and, married to a Kansas girl, gets extra points from me for hailing from the sunflower state.

The bad: heavy mothing. When I first started lurking on the FL I thought guys posting photos of themselves in moth eaten hats looked nuts. And now I’m one of them. Numerous divots on the crown and top of brim.

The ugly: total carnage on the bottom of the brim, shown here in raking light to bring out the damage.

When all is said and done it’s a gorgeous beater I will proudly wear around the neighborhood and out to a bar and not have to worry about keeping it pristine.

But if you see another one like this in 7 1/8–be sure and let me know!;)

David
One heck of a hat David. Looks great on you.

Originally made this Sahara 100x clean but a client wanted a replica of Johnny Depps hat he wore on Jimmy Kimmel. Just shipped to Florida! Matching Belgium trim courtesy of the Legend Art Fawcett.

I pulled two Stetsons out of the freezer today, one medium vintage, one modern.

First up is a Shudde Bros. (60s?) with a three cord ribbon. It has a little discoloration right above the knot on the crown but is in good shape overall.

The other is a modern Stetson Weekender in sage. I don't like it as much as I had hoped. Its a little rough but not terrible.
