Second new hat of today, same seller, same owner provenance.

A.F. Bodecker Top Hat. A favourite Danish hatmaker of mine.

Supplied to a hat shop in the Danish mainland town of Randers.

A Nielsen.

Due to among other things, the Danish spelling of Copenhagen on the original hat box suggests this one is pre WWI.

Sadly, the Top Hat doesn't fit. It's about two sizes smaller than the Bowler despite it being owned by the same man.

There's at least 15 to 20 years between the Topper and Bowler, probably more. My theory is, the gentleman bought the Top Hat as a young man, put on weight as an older gentleman and needed a larger size.

The seller says that they were her grandfather's wedding hats. Not really possible due to the age and size differences, but family history is hard to argue against so I won't burst her bubble.

I've been wanting an early A.F. Bodecker hat box for some time, so I'm more than pleased with my double hat purchase despite the one not being a fit.

It's a beautiful topper, Steve. Pity about the size. I really like the detailed liner imprint.

Thanks Stefan. It's quite special indeed and typical of Bodecker from that era. I'm not too sad about the size, more happy about the box

Hückel Weilheim "Mercur", 57 cm, probably later 1950s. The black Belt Felt has a really great finish and the Crown was pre Blocked so I kept it that way. The small Side Dents were popular in Germany in this time period. Really like the Band width, Bow design and the thinner Binding. The overall condition is fantastic.

Thanks Steve. I was lucky to buy some hats from a woman who's husband was passed away and has a collection of hats. The woman was satisfied to see that the hats goes to someone who actually wears them.

Ja, it's usually nice to know for a seller that their family connected hat is going to someone who will appreciate it, or them if more.

The third and final of the recently arrived refurbs from Robert at Wolfbrae. This one via Brent @deadlyhandsome:
A Resistol Western.



I forgot to take photos of it when it arrived, but Robert needed to clean it and fit a new ribbon and bow. He sent it open crown and brim flat, so I could bash it myself.

Finally decided on this look:



11.5cm crown to the front crease (4.5 inches)
8.3cm brim (3.3 inches)

I'm not sure what Western aficionados would say, but it's my hat and that's how I want it
