This is a pretty exciting one -- my first Vita-Felt, a Stetson Diplomat in my favored color gray. Missing the liner and could definitely benefit from a good steam and brush, but it fits great, the shape is beautiful, the felt is soft and thick and malleable, classic looking overwelt brim and the sweatband is in decent shape. Very happy to have this!

The tag looks a lot like the others @deadlyhandsome and @BobHufford have recently posted -- do you all think 1940s for this?

Cheers,

David

I spotted this one on Shopgoodwilldotcom and couldn't resist throwing a bid or two it's way. The brand was unfamiliar, but the "Monza" made me think of the Italian town known for it's fine wool. But to complicate things was a size tag with size and "Hand Blocked" written in English...

It arrived today, and it's still a bit of a mystery. Here's some pics.

The felt feels like wool or maybe a blend, but with a velour-like hand I don't associate with wool normally.

The size tag was taped to the sweatband. Here it is stuck to the felt to show it.

The back of the size tag taped in place to show the union label.

The crown is just over 5 1/2" and the brim 2 3/8". The ribbon is 2 1/8". 138g. It is old enough to have verdigris on the sweatband seam, and the liner tip protector is the thick kind. No guess as to age, or to it's supposed Italian-ness, but a cool hat nonetheless. Any additional info or knowledge always appreciated.

I don’t know much about Montecristi Panama hats, but I’m pretty sure this was worth 12 bucks.

The brim was a bit wonky from being stuffed into a too-small hatbox (the seller insisted this was a Churchill hat, and refused to ship without the box), but just a bit of steam fixed that. Now to find a nice pug.

Four years ago, I received very helpful advice at this site. Since then, I’ve been relatively quiet member. Now I guess I have something to share. This is my brand new customized Hufvud Raven Crown. It’s 50X beaver blend in sable brown with a special shark gill ribbon and binding in colour that goes by the name of “Sudan brown.” That specific colour is also known in the Merriam Webster dictionary and in the Pantone colour space. Its hex code is # ac6c29. I asked Mikael something close to brass or bronze, and Sudan brown was his answer. As so many of you know from your personal experience, sable brown felt is very rich in tones too, and I’m glad I trusted Mikael’s word on the ribbon colour, for otherwise, the result could have looked weird.

The ribbon colour escapes photographing. It often looks grey in photos, while in nature it has an incredibly wide range of different shades, though mostly elegantly matching grey-brown with the felt itself.

I love this particular shark gill ribbon. Mikael said he can do it. Oh yes he could! Isn’t it beautiful, is it!

I could have chosen differently, but this time Mikael won because this particular model called Raven Crown looked so pleasing to my eye.

Wonderful looking Huvfud, Juhani.

Congrats on it and for supporting one of the modern hatmakers. They will be the vintage hatmakers of the future.
