Wormser 3X Quality / Ten Star Quality. The crown is soft and similar to comparably aged Open Roads, but the brim is rather firm. I don’t mind it at all and it gives it a more rugged character. The felt has an ice blue tint to it that’s hard to capture. I sure wish it was my size.

Dumb luck! I bought this as a rescue hat “knowing“ it was a 6 3/4. It has some moth damage, but no through holes and Vita-Felt hats need to be saved. I thought I’d at least get my money out of it by flipping it. As soon as I opened the box I knew this was no 6 3/4!

The liner appears to have been removed at one point and has tabs used to reattach it. I don’t see any mention of Vita-Felt or Vita-Felt Process on the sweatband, but the sweat and the liner are both “Royal Stetson De Luxe.”

It happened!! IT HAPPENED!!!!

Croydon - Supreme Quality

View attachment 246359

Croydon - Supreme Quality - Medium Reddish Tan Felt
4 3/4 crown
1 1/2 Tan and Brown duo tone grosgrain ribbon treatment
2 1/2 brim with 3/8 grosgrain bound edge
1 7/8 soft brown sweatband

Croydon.. Another unknown (to me) Hat brand... but what a cool looking hat this is. Built in a sort of Whippet clone styling with the 2 1/2 brim 3/8 bound Edge. The real star of this hat is it’s Almost Musketeer like two-tone ribbon treatment. The felt is a beautiful medium tan that leans to reddish tones. There are just a couple moth nibs toward the top of the crown that do not go through and the up side of the brim shows a tiny bit of brushing marks... some of which I was able to work out. Inside there are the remnants of what looks like a yellowed cellophane liner tip. Might be some kind of hint on age. Other than this hat is almost perfect shape.. the sweat is nice and soft. I also what appears to be it’s factory bash in a beautiful tear drop shape.

I could not find really any info on Croydon As either a hat manufacturer or brand. I’m thinking though this could be a house brand. I’m getting a bit of a Lee Hats vibe off this one. Maybe others would have more thoughts on that.

And this salesman ad for the manufacturer of Croydon hats as GNY Hat Co located at 750 Broadway NYC. Who else was located at 750 Broadway.... Stetson

I visited Osaka yesterday, feeling naked without a hat and ended the day with this Japan-made Knox raffia.

Our Panama hats arrived today.

I’m pretty happy with mine, though there’s no way it’s a true size 60. The Knox is a 59, but it’s significantly bigger than the new Panama. My head measures something like 58.7. Some 59s are a good fit (like the Knox) but lots tend to be too small. All my size 60s up until today have been slightly big, but this one’s only just big enough. Truly, any smaller and I’d be up in arms, but it turns out that it’s a snug & comfy fit.

My wife is less happy with hers. It’s a softer finish and everything about it seems to have been done with less care and attention to detail than mine. The brim is quite bumpy (though not very clear in the photo).

The sweat band is looser.

and the ribbon is also looser.

Is this just a fact of life with a softer Panama?

Dobbs Fifteen Homburg

99BEBDF4-53F4-4D2C-BB90-3BAA739F01CD.jpeg

Dobbs Fifteen Homburg
Light Grey Felt
5 inch crown with center dent (5 5/8 open)
2 inch black grosgrain ribbon
2 1/4 brim to curl with 1/2 inch contrasting grosgrain binding
1 7/8 soft brown sweatband
Oil skin liner tip

This one arrived a few weeks back. Finally had the chance to post it. Beautiful light grey Dobbs Homburg Fifteen. Fairly soft crown allows shaping as desired... but easily pops right back to its preferred center dent On the 5 inch crown as bashed (manufacturing tag indicated 5 5/8 I’m guessing when open) The brim is quite nice at 2 1/4 to the curl and features a great looking contrasting grosgrain edge. The sweatband is soft and supple. There are a few moth nibbles and one small thread loose on the Brim binding... can prob be clipped . But nothing too bad at all. All this one needed was a very light brushing to get off some dust mostly on the ribbon. The manufacturing tag points to 1950s. I’m guessing early 50s with the oilskin liner tip... I’m sure I’ll be corrected :) This grey homburg specifically checked one of my boxes As being just that and I’m really happy with it.

@JC Montecristi Hat, maybe you can tell me if the issues with my wife’s hat are normal for a softer Montecristi.

Got a tip, took a trip, up I 65 N a ways. Where I met a man, with hat in hand, such as I haven’t held in my days. I gave him cash, and left in a flash, lest he realize what he’d just given away. From TN to AL, this ones here to stay.

Actually, this one came from a really nice guy I met in Franklin, TN who is prepping for a move back to MA in August.
