Picked up this Portis western, my first green hat. Came in about as dirty as any I've bought. Turned the gas almost black. The glued in liner came out and the plastic tip protector cracked so I removed it. Washed the liner in woolite and it washed away most of the bucking bronco and cowboy. The Portis logo and the cowboy's hat remained. Must have been in a cattleman crease most of its life and some shadowing remains after I opened it up. Now to figure out a crease and what I'm going to do with the brim.

Lovely shade of green and perfect hat body. Its a beautiful piece of felt. Ribbon and sweat look in good condition. Wonder how it would look with a wider simple centerdent and very little rake...?

And the third installment of the Great International Hat Swap of '17.
Thus was the first one I looked at, and it was in my mental shopping cart before I even saw the last pic. A true no-brainer.

Mayser Spezial Homburg, 50's vintage.

Felt and construction are everything I'd hoped for all these years seeing Steve's Maysers (plus those of other Loungers) but never having handled one. In a word, marvelous.
Crown at 5 1/2" open, brim at 2 1/4". 143g.

Now I want more Maysers...:)

Vanzina Extra Extra Grigio - Color Uranio

qnwys0.jpg

I came accross, during summer time, some hats produced in the Cappellificio Vanzina of Pavia ( Milan ) sold in Genova
2myuuso.jpg

Difficult to say if they are produced before or after Borsalino bought the Vanzina facility. I think this hat was produced after the Borsalino take over

There is no Borsalino sign, but my conviction is stated above
9a3483.jpg

Vanzina made in deep grey fur felt
Size is 57 cm. (7 1/8 US) Crown is 12 cm (4.75 inches) overwelted brim is 5 cm. (2 inches)
The fur felt is medium soft, pliable and in a special short hair finish
1zou6mh.jpg

Linen in white with an excellent sweatband

Vanzina have its own mark and not the Borsalino marks
ih2mc5.jpg

The wonderful deep grey felt is completed with a fantastic ribbon in satin 4.5 cm with an elegant bow
The fur felt in a short hair finish has a soft touch

New old stock. A perfect hat from another hats shop closed in Genova

That is a beautiful hat, Daniele. Is it for sale?

Looking at it from the first photo, I really thought that it was a Homburg, but no. It's a real beauty mind, you wear it well and, oh boy, I can't make up my mind if the shirt does the hat justice, or the other way round.
