That Florentine milan, from a purely practical standpoint, is unbeatable. I bought one a few years ago specifically to have a hat to wear when I took my kids to Disneyworld for a week. It has since seen numerous trips to the river and endured gallons of central Alabama humidity, and it still looks like I just pulled it out of the box new. I was put off at first by the plastic-y feel of it, but quickly grew to appreciate the resilience of it. It's a go to hat for me in the heat of the summer now.

It's the plastic that turns me off. I wound up unloading the ones I had because, to me, they amplified the heat. I felt like I was wearing a plastic bowl on my head.

Having said that, many folks like them and that is an attractive design.

I had purchased one of the newer Milan Stratoliners a couple of years ago. At first I liked it. One day, I wore it to the Dayton Air Show on a hot afternoon. After I got home, I took it off and never put it on again. Sold it a couple of months later on eBay. To me, there is no comparison to a real Milan, or even a modern hemp Milan.

Thanks, RJR. I'm trying to get away from the stingy brims and I'm selling or trying to trade all mine and use the funds for a nice vintage greater than 2" but less than 3". Having said that I will be holding on to this one as it was a family members

It's no plastic milan, but it is a Dobbs, and it's new to me. Was waiting on the porch when I got home from work. I'm estimating 60s or 70s. It has a felted edge and is very light weight.

Max Wiese Berlin (M.W.B.) "Halali Special", measures 58cm probably late 1930s early 1940s, modified probably 1970s or later. The crown of this hat was cut down and the band was changed to a felt type. The over welt was also added and probably the hat was reformed to further reduce brim width (modified dimensions Crown Open 5 1/2 inches, Brim 2 1/4 inches). The modification work is really well done (saved original sweatband, tip patch (could be cut from liner) and paper label) but I am sure the original hat was amazing. The felt on this hat is really fantastic and easily dry creases (see photos).

You can see that the sweatband was reattached after modification.

You can see the where the crown was cut (just below stitching).

Here is advertisement for a Max Wiese Berlin "Halali Hut". I think this one is later but it's probably close to what this hat originally looked like. What is interesting is Halali is associated with hunting but these hats are Dress Hats.

They were made by other companies and go back to the early 1900s or further.
