It cost me 5 bucks at a fleamarket.my favorite hat is a c.r.Anthony Deluxe that cost me 3 bucks .i've got hats I paid a lot more for, but, don't like near as much.
According to the reorder tags the way the original sweat band was sewn in and the way the band was made this is a 1900 to 1920 stetson. Unfortunately the liner was missing and the leather band was deteriorated and had to be replaced.
Love the shape of this one. And the vintage of it is really cool. You have the nicest things Steve...J.Hückel´s Söhne "Flexible", 58cm, Crown Open 5 1/2 inches, Brim with Curl 2 1/4 inches, probably 1930s maybe late 1920s. The felt is very light weight and very pliable felt (easily dry crease). The dressing (off-white wide sweatband, gilded liner logo, and barbed hat cord ) of the hat is really fantastic.
Open Crown
This hat has a lot going for it Moe. I would call it a "Lords Hat" based on my reading of the definitions found here. Love the color and the brim treatment is interesting for a curled hat. I have read that the Lords Hats were without the edge binding of a true homburg. Of course, I haven't studied that thread for a while. This Penn-Craft arrived yesterday. It is in great shape, sweat is nice and soft, the only damage is where somebody had attached a paper tag to the sweat with a twisted wire through a small hole, when I went to examine it to determine the best way to remove it, the wire tore through the leather, leaving a small nick at the edge. That and the expected verdigris. Wish the liner was still with it, but not a huge deal.
The insides
Tag
With a center dent
And a pinch
The crown is about 5 1/4" open, the brim 2 1/4" with curl.
2" ribbon. Raw edge. 120 grams. The felt is nice and malleable, and in great shape with no mothing that I can detect.
I have not found much info on the Penn-Craft division of Stetson, but it seems they had a short run from the mid thirties to early forties. The style (Lord's hat maybe?) looks late thirties to me, but my hat dating skills aren't the best.
Any input welcome!

I would need more interior photos to be sure. First glance at what's left of the tags looks more forties to fifties to me. I was wrong once before, though...
