I liked these colors too. I made one in overchecked houndstooth Pendleton fabric once, but my daughter ripped it out of my hands before I even got the ribbon sewn on properly. I think I might wear this one tomorrow when I go out stalking the elusive mushroom.

I agree, it does look new. I've found it was made after 1906 because that is the year that the store it was sold in changed names. Don't know what the newest date would be, I suppose it would be when derbies went out of style. Or when that store closed, which I haven't been able to track down yet.

Dobbs West was a sub-brand of Dobbs created by Hat Corporation of America in 1969 in an attempt to obtain a greater market share in western hats, a market that had generally been a smaller one for Hat Corp. But at the tail end of the twentieth century hat-manufacturing era, it was a last ditch gamble. All Hat Corp. production was moved to their Winchester, TN, factory by 1970 when they closed their massive Norwalk, CT, factory, so yours could have been made in either location. Hat Corporation of America sold their hat brands and got out of the hat business altogether in early 1972. Koracorp, Inc., in Garland, TX, bought them out. Koracorp also owned Resistol, so the brands were now produced at their Garland facility, though yours is definitely a Hat Corporation product, rather than Koracorp. I can't remember if Garland is still making the Dobbs West line, but I think they could be purchased at least until the 1990s, if not later. That being said, your hat was made between 1969 and early-1972. Nice find.

I know this is big brim country, but I'm actually pretty fond of stingy brims. I don't run into things with them, or knock stuff off shelves, and they stay put when I'm on the bike.

Also got a couple of large Godfather type homburgs in wool for a big headed friend who occasionally plays dress up.

Brüder Böhm Wien "Ultra", 58cm probably 1930s maybe late 1920s. This is a fantastic Stiff Felt that is in great condition but on the heavy side at 189 grams. Still has the original size stamp at the rear of the sweatband. A Thank You to Manfred for the assist!

Today the mailman showed up with a nice little find for me, just in time for a last blast of hot weather. KNOX Milan, ca. 1960.

Wow...very hip....Looks like that Cavanaugh Milan that is on a few of those Capitol Sinatra lps....I've always dug that hat....This Knox is that one's twin, only grey instead of blue....I
