Here is a cool little hat. It's a 6 7/8 long oval with a couple of moth holes. But the reason I picked it up was the cool detachable sweatband.Ive read about them here but never saw one.Plus I thought the liner was interesting. If it was my size I would wear it.

This came in a couple days ago. Got a real scare when USPS tracking indicated it was out for delivery but noted there was "visible damage." Needless to say I was there to meet the postman and when he handed me the ripped, paper covered box I was pretty anxious. The postman even shook his head. I could see the hat inside and was scared to finish opening it. The original box had crumbled during shipping and was pretty much dust. I was very surprised to find the hat in pristine condition. Kind of an OR clone with a 2" brim.

That is a cool hat. I don't care for an "Open Road" type crease, I don't (or thought I didn't) care for that short a brim, but they look great on that hat. Pretty danged nice. Right color, right everything.

Beautiful acquisition Alan!

I just picked this one up from the mail box fresh from Rabbit in Deutschland.

This is a beautiful Homburg. Great dense, easily manipulated felt. Other than a short length of broken stitches on the sweat it is in immaculate condition.

Thanks Alan. The entire hat is interesting.
It is very easy to tell this is a finely made hat from the deep stamping on the sweat (which by the way is very thin and soft still), to the perfect ribbon work and brim binding stitching. I'm not much of a Homburg wearer but this one is now part of my permanent collection. Would you date this one early forties?

The one I have is identical except for the Stetson mark on the liner, which is printed in blue rather than red. The sweat is LOT76XX and it shares the gold size tag and single field manufacturing tag. The liner is an unusual fabric - synthetic I think - with a slippery feel. Perhaps acetate? It is the only Stetson hat I own that uses this.

This model retailed for $5 in its day. I would date it c.1940 with a little wiggle room to either side.

Roger, Great looking Homburg! Also great condition!

Dogman, Really like the color combo and form! Also the liner disclaimer!

Alan thanks for the information. Most of my Stetsons are from the late 50s early 60s era and I'm not as familiar with the older Stetsons. The next oldest Stetson I have is a 15 from the O.P.S. / Korean War era.

Steve thanks for the compliment!

I was lucky enough to get this one last week. Early 1950's Portis Crest....possibly a little older. Has all the elements that i like best in a fedora.... Wide brim, high crown, mid ribbon. and beautiful color!
It's taupe with a reddish brown ribbon and a greenish brim edge. Someone at Portis really knew what they were doing with subtle color choices.

Sweet! Colors are multidimensional allowing for all sorts of dress possibilities.
