A borsy I picked up off ebay. It has a blind stitched edge binding thats really narrow on the top side of the brim. I showed it to Mike at Northwest hats and he was impressed someone could sew it that close to the edge.

Here's one that I just recently acquired from John Galt. Actually, he gave it to me. It used to be his hat. It started out as a 1950s Stetson, size 7, Nutria Western. John G. resized it to a 7 1/8 LO and converted it over to a fedora. I really like this Nutria felt. It took a dry crease very well. I used a little steam to add the finishing touches and set the crease. I went with a Center Dent. The over all height of its straight sided crown is nearly 5 inches tall, as creased. I creased it to 4 1/2 inches at the pinch to 4 inches in the back. The brim is 2 3/4 wide. The contrasting medium brown ribbon is an 1 1/2 wide with a double bow, I hid the stitching on the bow work. John Galt did an excellent job on this conversion. I'm really happy with it. My thanks to John G.... I strongly recommend him for your next hat refurb or conversion project...

What a coincidence, I found a Stetson Nutria size 7 at Goodwill a few months ago and for 8 dollars I couldn't pass on it. It has a 3 1/2 inch brim and I left it at Northwest Hats to be converted also. Whenever Mike gets around to it he will make it into a fedora too. It's great seeing how well yours turned out, as it gives me an idea on how mine will look. I'm going to have an edge binding put on mine with a shark gill bow.

Yours turn out fantastic! Does yours have the Nutria Liner in it? The sweatband in mine was toast but since it needed to be resized it was going to get replaced anyway. It's great to breath some life back into these hats that may have just ended up as a work hat or thrown away.

Thanks buddy...$8 for a Stetson Nutria was definitely a bargain. I wish I could find stuff like that. Mine didn't have the liner. I don't know if it originally came without one, or if it was just missing. The original nutria sweat was still intact though, and although it shows signs of wear, it's still soft and supple. I wanted to keep something original to the hat so it could be identified as a Stetson Nutria. I thought it was a shame not to reuse the sweat somehow even though it was a size 7 and I'm a 7 1/8 LO. So, John Galt worked out a solution of sewing on a piece in the back from another sweat band for an expansion patch. It worked out great. I got to keep the original sweat after all, just the way I wanted. I'm really happy with it. Good luck with your Nutria. I can't wait to see how yours turns out.

DOGMAN, that's a very nice find. That is one sweet looking hat. I really like that one!
