Nice and a different shape, is that how this particular hat is called a Kettle Finish? Or is it a combination of shape and texture or color, or all of those together? I have to ask as I am not as "educated" as some about hats, and as I have been the primary buyer of hats for now, as my Husband is still on his road to recovering, all the more information I can learn can help me not buy something that would be a bad expense, just as knowing what is good to make a good purchase, (if that all makes sense to you)?

Seems that you are making a nice increase of your Fedora collection!

Oh yes, hope you will take this as a good compliment, you are a close dead ringer for a young Gene Autry wearing that hat right there.

Thank you :)

I believe the kettle finish is how the hat was felted during the process of the hot water and such. I have also heard of it being the brim curl. For me, a good purchase is one that is able to make one smile. I hope Daniel has a speedy recovery (that hat you had made for him is absolutely a beautiful creation by the way)!

Che, those are some awesome finds!!!

My wife stopped by the local thrift shop a few days ago and brought back a present for me.

A Failsworth fedora in very nice shape. I don't know much about it other than that it's British made. The felt is quite thick and has a good hand to it. The brim was a bit misshapen but a bit of water and working it by hand fixed that. I'm not a big fan of the matching felt ribbon, so I'll probably swap it for some grosgrain. The hat looks to have some years on it, but I can't say how many. Here are some pictures:

Che - nice finds. Be sure to post those gems in the German & Austrian thread.

Bladeof Anduril - that label points to late 60's maybe early 70's. Failsworth were making very decent fur felt hats back then - on a par with the other UK makers. The company is still going but today whilst they still produce nice caps, their fedora production is limited to blocking low quality cuenca Panamas and selling very cheap wool fedoras.

Rock on, CCJ! Terrific additions, sir. The Milan is my fav. Wait until Mike sees it!

I JUST received what is now the gem of my collection, and my camera is not working. A Lee Twenty, Gold Label, in my melon-size 7-3/4. I couldn't find a Gold Label on the "Lee Lounge" thread to compare with. Are there any others out there around the Lounge? Well, I'm off to BestBuy's camera department. Photos to follow, fellas.

EDIT to post: There IS one, long hair Lee Twenty Gold Label posted as the very first(?) hat on the Lee Lounge thread. It's GORGEOUS, but I missed it.

For 65USD with shipping I'd thought I'd take a risk.
Sometimes it's too easy to hit the pay now button.
Your hats are very nice by the way, I can not get away with such hat brims w/o looking Amish.
Richard
I don't have that luck to get a so "expensive" hat. For that price with shipping would be a steal as shipping from the US costs me from $24 (first class int.) to $50 (priority int.) and if the hat costs more than $30, add import tax.
Some of my hats gives me "that" amish look, but no amish here so I'm safe.
Your hats look nice too.

Nice one!

Hi Folks

You gentleman are looking great today..

I am now in the market for a couple vintage hat trees to rest/hang my fedora's, straws and now a bowler..
The idea of storing the hats away unseen just does seem right to me.
It's kind of like having that great car in the garage but never driving her. AKA a garage queen..
So off to find a hat tree at the second hand shops.

Nice finds!

I am not aware of Kofler as a hat maker. I think it might be a department store. My guess would be early 1960s. It probably had a liner if no evidence of a tip patch. Lana would designate wool.

The Elegent has a great look! I would say later 1950s. I am not sure who made it but there is a paper label behind the liner (see photo of sweat stamp) that might have some information. These non-brand name hats were common.

Hi Steve !
here's the paper label on the Elegant
232323232%7Ffp83232%3Euqcshlukaxroqdfv54%3A%3Enu%3D8986%3E396%3E25%3A%3EWSNRCG%3D3742%3A366%3A234%3Bnu0mrj

Its a very nice felt overall for a non-brand
2 1/4'' brim , 5'' crown

the seller always has a good fresh supply of hats & most are stingys & trilby type so your very good for the estimate of vintage
I have purchased many hats from her in the last 4 years & very few are larger than 7 1/4
most are size 7 or smaller, I have found some German made Borsalino from her as well
My Sons & grand kids use them so very good deals at $10 to $15 ea.
excellent quality compared to expensive but cheep quality modern stingys

here is another example of non brand from her on a recent trip

another 2 1/4'' brim & barely 5'' crown fits a snug 7 1/8. a very cool hat in more of a dress weight but very moldable..
next month ill get more for the boys & post up in the German Hats thread...as the seller stated more are arriving
a very sweet Lady that wears the greatest German folk dresses A real Cutie !
