Hello everyone, I've been a serious hat collector for the past 3-4 years, I've always used this website to aid my research, but have never made a post before. This is my newest additions thanks to eBay

The first is a Pre-30's Cawnpore Sun-Hat, made in HONGKONG. Of all the pith/sola helmets out there, this is one of the best I've ever seen. The red lining was believed to reflect the sun's rays.

Thanks guys, I was really infatuated with that Cawnpore from the get-go and stalked that eBay auction like a hawk haha. I rarely ever see the quilted solas, and I frequently look for them. The silk interior is another thing I admire about this hat, I'm sure that $18.50 back in 1921 when this hat was advertised was quite a bit of money.

The challenge was accepted and met by Bethesda Maryland hatter Vince Corvelli. He's a third generation hatter who says straw hats are his specialty. Now in his early eighty's, Mr. Corvelli generally prefers to do hat repairs and maintenance only these days, but fortunately for me, he was intrigued by this project. I think he did it!

It took the folks in Ecuador a lot longer to weave the body than Mr. Corvelli took to finish. He had the completed hat back to me in a couple (or three?) of weeks. He would have been even quicker if he didn't have to wait for a special retainer block for my extra long oval.

Hello, guys. Today I came home from work to find 2 new hats waiting for me.. The first one, a long hair hat that I nabbed for 9.99.

Love it, a favorite for sure! Sadly it won't get much wear for now... It's too hot outside to put this fine hat on but once it gets colder it will get alot of wear.

Here is the other hat, I like the edge decoration and the ribbon is what caught my attention.

Great hat all around. Love the color and the band, will definantly get a lot of wear

New life to an old hat

I can tell you absolutely nothing about this hat. My bosses at the Brass Rooster routinely go to all kinds of places where old hats may be sold. Estate sales, rummages, swap meets etc. As a result, we have piles upon piles of vintage hats that need some form of work; be it new sweat, cleaning, etc. I found this Open Road/stratoliner styled hat all a mess and for some odd reason fell in love with it. It had no sweat, no liner, no brand tags. The only thing that remained was a union stamp inside. Anyway, here it is with new life. It's not perfect, but it is a hat again. I blocked it out to my size, it was originally a 7 1/4, I retacked the ribbon that was falling off and left the original because it's fading matched the binding's fading. It got a brand new sweat and a Brass rooster liner. So without further ado:

Thanks guys I'm very fond of it. The bosses got a real kick out of me passing on making new hats to save this one, but it just called to me. All it needed was a little tlc.
