A crushed box arrived today but, thanks to rlk's tremendous packaging, there were no frowns inside.

Austrian (but South American woven) panama for the wife
I'm a fan of the small, well attempted but obvious repair, the hand-sewn linen sweatband, and the rusty yellow patina on this hat. It's got 80 yeas and three continents of charm on it.

-The mothing was fully disclosed and expected. I wanted an rugged old hat that I wouldn't feel the need to baby.

Buy rlk's hats. Unlike ebay sellers, you can be certain that he's fully disclosed condition, and ships very, very quickly.
Thanks, Robert.

Thanks, Lefty, glad they survived. Shipping a soft straw hat in the summer always makes me a bit nervous. 2 hats with great character have found a good home.

Picked this up no too long ago. Not sure of the date but maybe someone here can provide an educated guess. I'm thinking late 30s or early 40s!

Thanks, guys.

Have not seen many Milan's blocked Optimo style. Different.

I'll take that as a compliment! But I have seen a few vintage milans with optimo crowns. Dinerman sold a couple last year. This was one of them:

Also, carouselvic has an interesting milan pictured somewhere on one of the pages of this thread. I couldn't find it, but I know it's here. A rather tall crown with a ridge, like an optimo crown, but with a flat top rather than a dome.

The numerous variations on telescope crowns in older milans are working with kind of a similar idea.
