Salmagundi of boston

A Hell of a Day at Salmagundi's in Boston !

Hello Everyone , hope all had a great weekend ,as I did myself, even thou I worked plenty of O.T. , but the highlight of my weekend was going back up to Boston to get my refurbished hat's from Salmagundi's ( www.salmagundi.com ) in
Jamaica Plains

While I was waiting for my hats to be brought up from the repair part of the store ,my wife decided to buy
two new hats and she had a most enjoyable buying experience being able to be right there in person being able to try on any and all of the hats till she found the two that she really liked the most and the sales person really went out of the way to help her decide which ones looked better on her and or not and was very
attentive .

These are the two she bought .

Here is another shot of the hats .

Here are a few pictures of the hats that they cleaned and reblocked for me.

That hat above was what I called my "mildew hat " as it was a brand new ,never worn N.O.S. hat with a cattle men's
crease crown and a nasty mildew smell to it , Jessen the owner had his hatter give it the deep steam clean treatment twice and she also reshaped and re blocked it into the diamond style crown crease and it even has a upward slope to the
top of crown on the reblocking that really gives it that Bogart look.

I love it ,great work done on that one !

BTW I sniped that one on free bay for like $30.00 with shipping and the box , so it was well worth to let jessen and his crew re clean and re block it.

The next hat was another one I also free bay sniped at the last second that I posted here a few weeks back and you all
recommended that I " pinch it more in the front " was the general comment .
The hatter also reshaped that one ,here it is .

Another view of said hat .

One more from the other side .

While talking about NEW hats , here is a shot of Jessen the owner ( first on the right ) his great and capable staff ,my wife ( second from the left ) just after she had bought those two hats she was very excited to say the least !

Now the cool part of my trip to get my and my wife's new hats , was seeing some of the inner working of a hat store .

Jessen started off by first showing me all the different hat blocks they have ,check these out .

This block was the one he used on my first hat the mildew hat .

Here is the hat . Wa la the same perfect shape ,just awesome !

I have a few more shots that I would like to share with you all as you can only post 10 to a post at a time .

He has a really nice hat stretcher and it worked wonders on a hat that I had that was just a tad to small he did a nice
deep cleaning on it and a re block and now it looks just awesome.

This is the hat he stretched and the reshape is also just perfect.

Also the selection on nice vintage hat band material is awesome ,check it out .

They also gave me a tip on a place to hunt for hats cheap on line called www.etsy.com very cool.

So in closing just wanted to say I had a great weekend , eating ,breathing and working for ( O. T. @work ) and on my hat collection and every time I go to Salmagundi's I just have a ball, he's a Solid Sender and his "crew " are a gas !

All the Best , Fashion Frank

Your justifiable enthusiasm shines brightly, Frank! Looks like you and your wife had a great time. Her choices are so stylish!

Your hats now have decades ahead of them. Nicely rescued, sir! :)

Frank, thanks for the pics and review of Salamugundi. My wife are in the Boston area a few times a year and will have to stop by there sometime. Your wife's hats are very sharp, as are your refurbished ones.

Robert, the color and styling on that Optimo are outstanding!

Titanic - very handsome design, Robert.

The brim edge design makes me wonder if Optimo has the ability to hide the ribbon stitch on top as on this Borsalino?
