Won this vintage '30s spiral-stiched British fedora ('The Stadium' model for 'Dunn & Co.') for a good enough price:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VINTAGE-L...bebd8ed#ht_500wt_1415&clk_rvr_id=308503859508

Finally received it in the mail yesterday. Turns out there's a size label inside: a British size 7, or U.S. size 7 1/8. I've stretched it to a U.S. size 7 1/4.

The hat is very dingy: the original color was a light heathery grey with beige accents, believe it or not. I'll soak it in naphtha soon.

Steve - nice Echter Borso. Cool that Manfred helped you out as well.

Hatto - the S25 looks great.

JT - another good looking OR for you.

Marc - that twirly Dunn & Co is very cool - I thought it was a milan when I first glanced at your photos.

New hat for me today, I caught this Whippet while it was swimming around in the bay. It is the long lost twin of my Bluegrass Whippet - they both have the OPS tag so are about the same age. Pretty much perfect condition, a little steaming and brushing and I think it will be as good as new.

Similar to what Stetson was making here under the name Plastifelt. I am sure it will clean up nicely. :D

Borsalino Balbi Feather Weight Ninfea(Waterlily)

P1030658.JPG

Spent too many decades rolled up in the little white box. Seriously creased-ribbon sweat and felt --it may have never left the original packaging to grace a head. Definitely not rollable without consequences. Will need professional blocking and flanging. Needs the proper block and flange as well as the ability to press it thereto. About the narrowest brim edge binding I've seen.

Very nice! It's fun to get these Borso boxes, but a shame the hats sat in there for decades. It takes a toll. I have one of those Balbis with the very narrow edge binding - 3mm... amazing that it can be sewn and the reveal be so even all around.

Agree, the bismuto I got in Roma still has some of the "roll line" dividing the crown even after reblocking it in wet. Keeping them in the little white boxes is a big [bad]

My great-great-uncle passed away a few days ago, and I was given his hats, all size 7, and me being a 3/8, is slightly unsure what I'm doing with them as of this point. Anyway, here's the first, labeled "City Club," sublabels include the phrases "Custom Made" and "New York" The sweatband states that it was sold by Waldrep's Fitwell Clothing Co. in Anniston ALA, and the tags state that it is handblocked to a size 7, and the original price was $7.50. Any info on this would be appreciated.

My latest ebay Open Road 25 after a little work

This is the condition it was in when I received it...no hat box.
FromEbayJan2012.jpg

I soaked it with distilled water from a spray bottle and set about bashing and bashing!
After drying and some steam it seemed to go in this direction.
ORJan202012011.jpg

I think I kind of like it a little imperfect. It has character. It will replace an old beater 25 that has seen its better days.
