Here is the Mallory lightweight I traded for...

I love this hat. It was exactly what I was looking for.
Thanks, Robert.

I was trying this and my new Portis on before dinner last night. Two great new additions.

If I could get a hold a bowler just like that one, I'd wear it. I love the color and swoop of the brim.

Thanks Al and scottyrocks!

Believe it or not, it has a center crease, and supple build-- a true homburg-- but it must have shrunk quite a bit over time-- it's a size 7, which I can usually stretch without much work, but this one's been on the stretcher, as tight as I can possibly twist it, for 3 days now!

However-- I agree completely regarding the unique color and swoop! Problem is, there are about a hundred and fifty mothbites I've been trying to sand, and it's starting to affect the color (darker where I've sanded). A work in progress...

I received this awesome Portis this weekend from a lounger in the classifieds...

I just couldn't do the porkpie - so I changed it up to suit my style.

Thanks Randall! I love the trim on this one and it fits like a charm.

Frankly, especially with that coat, I think this is one of my favorites on your head.

Stetson 7X Clear Beaver back from Optimo

After resting at the Custom Hatter for a bit without much hope of getting in the renovation queue, I decided to send my 7X western to Optimo for R&R. They installed a new sweat, cleaned, sized, forgot to reapply the wind trolley (it's in the mail) and returned a nice new hat back to me during the time I was down in Florida. A little sad to lose the original sweat, but it had shrunk a half inch over the years. Very happy to be able to wear this, finally!

2X Knox 40

The Knox Forty double header that I found on Ebay arrived a couple of weeks ago. They received the ebay "no plastic, newspaper stuffing" pack technique... fortunately they weren't white hats. I had some time this week to clean and steam, which they sorely needed.

These hats are from the same era, but they are not twins. My favorite is light gray with green undertones and 2 5/8 brim. The darker gray hat has a 2 3/8" brim. The 40s share a family relationship with my nice Knox 20 - similar shape and presentation. The 20 is a softer felt... the 40 is firm clay, much like the Stetson 7X, but heavier weight than the Stetsons I have. It seems to enjoy a crisp crease and pinch. That is how I set them.

Nice stuff. The ribbon looks brand new. Did you replace the original or just clean it?

Why not pounce the whole hat?

Alan, that Knox is a true Gem.

Rodkins, I disagree w/you, I think you'd look great in a Pork Pie.

Thanks for the comments. FMW, not sure which ribbon you are referring to, but all are original. There were two Knox 40s in this Ebay lot - only picture I posted of the darker one is the last head shot. Aside from the brim length and the color, they are very much alike.

All three are great looking hats Alan but my favorate is the darker grey Knox. BTW, I'll be joining the ranks of the digital rangefinder fold the last of April. I just put my order in for the new Fuji X-100 . Like the M8/M9 a real camera with CAMERA CONTROLS :)
