Today was a good day at the track. A few of my horses came in and brought some winners from the past couple of weeks that were even better than I had hope when I bid on them.

First is this old wooden stretcher. Don't know much about it other than I'm a woodworker and it just called out to me. The circumference scale is in centimeters.

The first hat looked great in the Ebay pics from the seller, but it really took my breath away when I unwrapped it. Twenty dollars bought a lot of hat back in the day:

The copper plate is about the size of a penny.

Just got my sale Cuenca Cabelero creased Panama from Robert. My friend came by and I used his cell phone to get some pics. It's NOT a Monti but it is a VERY NICE Cuenca Brisa weave ( about 120 wpi ) with a basic black grossgrain simple hatband and grossgrain sweat. VERY even weaving, a back woven edge and nicely creased. FAR BETTER than the $30.00 total it cost Dimensions are : Brim 2 3/4", crown @ front of crease 4 3/16", @ tallest side 4 7/8", and @ back 3 1/2". Is going to be my "beater" summer Panama this year

These are pics right out of the box and even if it is January, it's 74 degrees out today so will probably give it some head time this afternoon Will put some steam to the front of the brim later this evening to give it a bit more snap

Gonna keep the silver accent in the middle, but go with a black double bow. Then a diamond crease on top.

Don't "put the cart before the horse" till you get it and put it on your head. Panama's traditionally were and are wider brimmed than felts, even back in the day You like the "vintage" look from what I can tell in your blog, ( remember all that grease on your hair goes on the sweat and liner of your hats ) and Panamas are STILL the most vintage looking of modern made hats.

Yeah man, the grease is worth it IMHO I'm not jumping to conclusions on the hat, I mean I am still excited, but so far I've noticed that a 2" brim and not much more is a good fit to me.

Thanks to Panama Bob, my teardrop came in today. I'm more of a LO so it doesn't fit perfectly.

In your opinions, should I have it brim up or down in the front?

Have it brim up sometimes, brim down sometimes. At your age brim up more often might be good, because brim down will be the "suave look," whereas brim up is the bombing-around kind of look.

I just got back from hitting the weekend tag/estate sales and finding a great, "gold medal" liner Stetson 25. It's an earlier model, with stars and the diet beaver. It'll be for sale soon, as it's only a size 7. Photos to come, once I replace my broken memory card.

It looks GOOD on ya Me. I'm a brim front down guy with pinched front creases. if it has the grossgrain sweatband in it, take and give the WHOLE hat a good dose of steam ( get it warm inside all around the crown) and snap the front down and put it on your head while it is still warm and wear it till it cools. You'll find it will adjust to your LO head much better. The MORE you wear it, the BETTER it will fit. The woven straw will expand and contract much more readily than felt and leather will. The Brim looks PERFECT on you Ya done good
