The seller measured for me and said 2" which is stingier than I'd have wanted but still may be workable. The price was good considering the model and brim treatment so it'll be interesting to see.

Etsy doesn't seem to get as picked over as ebay. It is harder to find anything though as the level of hat knowledge seems to be much lower. It seems to me that etsy is more popular with woman and those selling mens hats don't always seem to be as familiar with hat sizing.

I agree. I bought a Dobbs hat thinking it was 7 3/8 (I'm 7 1/4), based on the crown opening dimensions. It turned out to be 7 1/8. A little more risk involved on Etsy, but there are deals to be had. Oh well. I am waiting, however, on a Dobbs FIFTEEN that was titled "wool hat". Size seems to be legit, as well as the brim measurements. I'm excited to see that one.

A Stetson Sovereign that I picked up for a song at a local thrift store. It's an olive color, with a 6" tall crown and 2 1/4" brim; based on the logo on the sweat I believe it's from the 1950s. I certainly left the store with a smile on my face that day.

Got this off of Etsy for $30 shipped.

Came like this:

After some steam it looked like this:

It has quite a bit of surface mothing but the felt is so thick that if I ever wanted to I could pounce it down to hide the moth bites. I think I'll leave it as it though as it isn't terribly noticeable with the longhair finish.

After steaming the brim became snappable front and back, which wasn't intentional but is really quite nice.
Here's the brim snapped down:

Marshall-- that's a mighty fine looking lid there! felted edge, too? I love the ribbon.

Sam-- nice work with the reshaping! That has really good dimensions for you-- similar to your brown/pecan Carmack? The new crease and brim are really nice.

Good work, Manfred! can't wait to see more pics of that melone.

Marshall, Super Thrift store find with the Stetson Sovereign! Is that an over welt or a felted edge?

CC, Great pickup with the Lee Western! I really like the band and felt color/finish. It looks very nice brim up and brim down.

Thanks Bowlerman, The crown is about the same height (6") but the brim is bigger than the Carmack. This Lee has a 3 5/8" brim and the Carmack is right about 3". The color is similar to the Whiskey color that Winchester puts out but it's not the same. This is a bit more subdued color with less yellow and red tones than the whiskey.

Thanks Mayserwegener
