Thanks! You can use steam, but I used a spray bottle with distilled water. You just dampen the crown and shape it until you get it how you like it, and then let it dry. There are lots of threads that cover it in detail.

Thanks for the info. I have me eye on the Campdraft. Someday. Which of the Australian companies did you get yours from?

I agree. Got my Stylemaster from them. Great service and prices for sure. Did you have to wait 12 weeks for your Campdraft? I notice there is a considerable wait for a lot of their hats and colors.

They have bluegrass greens in stock. Other colors are a three month wait. If you're interested in bluegrass green, it's time to order now if they still have your size, because they won't get any more until Christmas. Well, that's three months, but apparently they're not special order items, it's just whenever they get them in.

I just bought mu first vintage Open Road off of Ebay for $40. It was very dirty and stank of smoke. I was tempted to try cleaning it myself after reading some of the threads here, but being fortunate enough to live in the same town as Optimo, I decided to take it there for a complete restoration. Can't wait to get it back next week and i will post pictures of it.

RLK, Very nice berets.

azhiker, if you need help sizing photos, you are welcome to send them to me and then I will send them back to you sized to 800x600 which is perfect for here. Then you could post them. Just an idea.

Dirtiest hat yet:eek: Major Chicago Hat Manufacturer that died with its owner Albert Longley--most famous for a 3 year battle over the inheritance of his fortune(1929-31).

Very nice, Robert :eusa_clap

C. W. N.

Made by C. W. N (from paper label) and measures around 58cm. Probably German or Austrian and thinking prior to WWI. The felt finish is Bowler like but very soft and pliable. The cord is detached and there is some damage to the liner but not bad for an such an old one. There is some writing in the front of the sweat that I can't make out.

German - Austrian Back Bow

Another old one. I couldn't find any company information. Probably either German or Austrian and could be prior to WWI. It didn't have a liner because you can see where the glued label is missing. Thick felt with a unique natural finish. It is a tiny one measuring around 54cm.

It is called natural but it is actually finished. This one is a very short hair velour. I am not sure if you could find anything like it today. It has a very unique feel.

You use mink oil for the sweat bands? Hows does that work? Does it ever seep into the felt, how much do you use? I have several hats that have sweats that really need some TLC and I think that mink oil may do the trick. Ive just never used it before. I dont even know where to buy it.

I prefer the mink oil to Lexol as I think it makes the bands somewhat softer and more comfortable. I use it very sparingly and apply it with my fingertip in 2-3 inch increments around the band, rubbing it in thoroughly. I have never had it bleed through at all.

I wore the Adam out this weekend for a short trip, before I had time to use the mink oil on the band. It got sweat-soaked and when it dried it was hard, crinkled, and twisted as a potato chip! :rage: I got in too much hurry to wear it so I am packing it today for the trip to Optimo for a new band so it will be ready for the HATCO 2011 gathering.
