The Royal Stetson I found floatin' in the bay came back from Optimo today!
Many years of life have been added to Lt.Col. C. B. Hines' hat by Mr. Graham Thompson!

Two more of my old fedoras are being re-furbished by Mr. Thompson as we speak!

Dang! Great little shop, ain't it?

So, I was looking for my parents' hat box when I found this there

It's a stetson. Was folded wrong but I guess it'll settle. It's a great addition.

PS. Don't you just love bathroom pics and icy looks?

Another one I picked up several months ago, but had not yet posted.

Black Stetson Whippet. In great condition. It is my only black fedora. I am not sure how much I like black, it looks alright with certain thing. However, my wife loves it and says it is one of her favorites.

Wow! Warbird, that's the shape and cut I've been in search of for months!
I've got a long black double-breasted overcoat that screams for a that hat! :)

You need to have one good black fedora for those cold, dark Winter days - you've found a nice one.

1940-50's Borsalino

Here's one that I haven't posted pics of since Optimo cleaned and re-sized. I originally gave it a teardrop to get the crown down, but when it came back from Optimo I just pushed the back down a touch (it's actually a very light grey):

Warbird, that black Whippet is NICE. Superb dimensions with your features. I think black hats are fine and have several myself, but none as nice as that.

ScottF, that Optimo refurb has a really good silhouette/profile with that rounded back portion of the crown.

It gives me that gangsta look that I occasionally require.

As you can tell I finally had time the last couple of days to add pics of hats I have had for a few months. I can't remember whether these two hats were put up here before I had my camera go bad a while back. I acquired both this year and I think they are probably my favorite hats.

Stetson Whippet. I just love these hats. They have great dimensions. This one is a blue grey.

The second is a Keeneland Hat. It was made for Keeneland Raceway Lexington KY, one of the premiere horse racing facilities and auction houses for thoroughbreds in the world. I have a friend who is on the board there and I have worn this to the track and shown it around a bit. They all want this hat. HA!

Anyway during the 1930's Keeneland contracted with a hat maker, possibly Stetson or Champ to make these hats to their specs. I am sure there are others out there, but I have not ever seen another, nor has anyone at Keeneland. But it has their logo in it from back at that time and they know they were made for them. Interesting story none the less.

That is one beautiful Borsalino Scott. I love those old Italian hats!

I think in the future, I'll stop buying two or three inexpensive hats each month and concentrate more on buying one really nice Borsalino every two or three months.

Thank you! This Borsalino was only about $70, but then cost additional to have Optimo re-size and clean up. That's the route I've been taking, rather than paying $200-300 for an already-pristine version. Every now and then I take a stab at one of the 'super hats', but have only landed a couple.

Really, really nice hats. I love both of them. How much did they lighten your wallet?

You wouldn't believe me if I told you. I don't recall exactly. The Keeneland I bought from somebody fairly local who I met by chance. The Whippet I bought at a costume/ sort of vintage type shop in a small town in another state I happened to go by once and have bought a few hats there. In fact I also bought my black Whippet there several months later.

That shop had quite a few other hats as well, some new and some old including a Stetson Gay Blade. I would never ever have worn that so I didn't buy it. But I did think about buying it and selling it to an FL member because I know some like them.
