Holy smokes, Greg! What a find. Now that's the sort of western hat I would love to add to my collection. Congrats.
Thank you, Stefan. You really upped your game with the Open Road. Seeing you in a hat like this would show Mads Mikkelsen who the real Danish cowboy is.
Gotta praise THIS hat Greg!
The ultimate 3X embroidered Last Drop Stetson. The wide ribbon sets it far above our normal examples.
The pinch, the crease, the curl….definitely a Bamaboots Classic.
Perfection!

Thank you, Bowen. It really is one of those hats we've seen in the vintage catalogs where I've wished 100 times that I could find a hat "like that'. And I mean just. For it to be in as great a shape that it is and to have the bells and whistles, (liner and ribbon size) that I find special in a western, was an I'll be damned moment when I saw it for sale. The liner has no tip protector or evidence of ever having one either. I've never run across that before though I imagine there are examples I've missed.

You just never know what you’re going to get. Seller described this as a bluish grey Stetson Stratoliner and posted a photo with a ruler that seemed to clearly show a 2 1/2” brim. Hat looked dusty and possibly kind of tired condition.

Hat arrived this morning—a beautiful purplish blue. Eric @Short Balding Guy is this what you refer to as Cadet Blue? Amazing color I have never owned before. And the brim is 2 3/4”. ;)

No complaints on this end—a beautiful hat in a rare color in very good condition and it fits beautifully.

Below photos of the hat on my hand better show the true color.

Enjoy the weekend!

Some recent additions to my collection. My first Wormser. I'm estimating 50s. It's got a stitched in liner. I'm impressed with the quality of it.

I should've taken before photos of the stingy Dobbs. I wasn't sure it was gonna come back, but a little steaming and it turned out pretty decent. I'm guessing it's 60s or 70s.

The Harley cap was an impulse purchase (as if they all aren't) a few weeks back. I've never run across a sure enough vintage one anywhere near a size that would fit me.

We lost my Dad and hero a few weeks ago and he left me one of his most cherished hats, this one that Mike at Buckaroo hatters had made for him. Dad also gifted to my son his black Stetson that he bought 51 years ago on the day I was born.

Glad you and your son have these family heirlooms as well as the memories they trigger. So sorry for your loss though.

Cavanagh Toro Brown
4 3/4 Crown as shaped (approx 5 3/8 open)
2 inch Burgundy Grosgrain Ribbon
1 7/8 brim with Cavanagh Edge
$30 Price Tag

I could not pass up this thirty dollar Cavanagh for just ten bucks. The felt and ribbon color combo plus the feather makes for a striking look. Excluding the brown leather sweat that might indicate otherwise, the somewhat stiffer felt, shorter brim and less substantial crown along with the thirty dollar price point had me thinking 1960s and the manufacturing tag seems to support that dating. I have another Cavanagh with almost identical specs in black with black sweat and a twenty-five dollar price tag. I might like to pull that one out and compare them side by side. One thing is for sure is it really shows the Hat-enomics of the time when you think how substantial of a hat you could buy for ten dollars less just a decade prior. All of that being said when you view it through the lens of 1960s production from HCA, this is a very nice hat. I love the color scheme and Cavanagh edge and it really makes an easy wearing hat.
