A few years ago I bought in the USA some hats of Beaver Brands from a seller who had participated in the auction after the collapse of the hat factory. The hats arrived and even if they are my size, so a 59 cm. or a 7 3/8 in US they are wide.
I never wear them for this reason, also because they did not work with a thickness of cork or felt. A great disappointment.
I have kept them so far excellently preserved and I want to show them to you.
Let’s start with what’s best on my head
bb-nero-1-jpg.320289

American Legend size is 7 3/8 and it is a true size

This is the inside of the hat that I wore three times, more or less, in many years
bb-nero-2-jpg.320290

Felt is thick and very substantial, the finishes are a bit approximative, but I think this depends on the difficulty of the manufacturer.
bb-nero-3-jpg.320291

I confess that at the time I was a bit amazed by the little malleability of beaver felt, but I had his confirmation with a Stetson bought in the States. I learned to "master it" and my knowledge of felt and its characteristics increased
bb-nero-4-jpg.320306

From the photographs you can see the small flaws on the brim, but the hat and its shape I really like
bb-nero-5-jpg.320319

I must confess that this shape of the hat I like very much with the massive crown and flat brim, so much so that I had to give one to a friend who wanders in love with the shape not very common in Italy.

Again, nice catch Marcel.

The Manchester hat maker Failsworth had/have the Stetson licence.

I have, among others, a Stetson Sovereign of theirs with a similar label.
I'd place yours mid to late 50s, possibly early 60s. This style of Homburg was made popular by various Conservative Prime Ministers after WWII.

What better way to cheer oneself up at the start of a long working week than to wear a top hat while making dinner :)

This, the fifth hat from the @PanosChris Oslo haul. A little more to come in the Toppers Unite thread.
View attachment 320354 Have a good and safe week folks!
So glad seeing this one worn after around 1.5 year sitting in the box and God knows how many before that, forgotten in a storage room/cellar...

Thanks Panos.

Coincidentally, I came across the photo of you wearing it back in December of 2019. Only guy I know who can wear a top hat in casual dress, in his car in an empty car park, and still look good :)

Bought today this black Royal quality Stetson. Don't know a lot about it, but maybe the 50's or am i totally wrong? Help is welcome :) I think it's in a great condition. View attachment 320066 View attachment 320067 View attachment 320068 View attachment 320069
Very nice find, Marcel. I don't think it was intended as a real homburg though, even if it has a brim curl. Failsworth did these Stetsons very well. Their homburgs were usually Imperial quality with very tight brim curls. But I really like the style of the one you found; the brim seems a bit wider. Slighty less formal than a homburg; nice!
