Dunlap Supreme Space/Weight

This Dunlap Supreme Space/weight As it’s name suggests has a rather light weight thin felt. This one has a stingy overwelt brim at 1 1/2 inch and a 4 1/2 crown as bashed. It does not have the neato Dunlap/Champ Space/Weight liner or pin... nor do I think it ever did. The liner is glued in.. and there is no manufacturing tags I can find underneath the sweat or liner other than a hand written 8 on the felt. It has no size tag... but measures out and fits right at a 7 1/8. It has a single sided bow which I think I had only found on one other of my hats. I’m sure it was a cost cutting measure but it Makes a sleek one piece look.

I received this hat a couple months back.. but did not post it here at the time as it arrived with a tear in the back of the crown and wanted to attempt a repair on it. I think it came out fairly well

Wow, didn't know Dunlap made a Space Weight, thought that was a Champ thing. Very interesting. How is the felt on that one. My Dunlap Twenty is one of my softest felts.

Been a long time since I've found a hat in one of the "big city" thrifts. Of course it doesn't fit me, but I'll find it a new home. For $7.00 I didn't leave it there.

Seems to go well with my dirty truck though.

No labels (size or otherwise) under the sweat / liner.

Now it's in the freezer and will see a naphtha bath later.

Nice find Bob. What size is it ?

Hey Tim.. I believe at this point in time Dunlap and Champ were virtually one and the same. When it came to the cool Space/Weight Liner they are identical except for the Champ or Dunlap name.

The felt on this is actually very nice. It is thin and light. And the texture is quite velvety even though it is a very short flat finish.

I believe I have seen some space/weight hats with wider brims and Cav edge and such. I’m assuming this one is a very late 60’s considering the short brim and cost cutting things like glued in liner. But the felt is still good quality.

It is good to see another Shudde. It will be a great hat if it is anything like mine.

...and it does go well with your truck. Reminds me of just how my father-in-law used to carry his.

"Wiener Mode (Viennese Fashion)", measures 58 cm, Crown Open 6 inches, Brim 2 inches, Back Bow, possibly 1930s. This one has has some major insect damage and wear issues but still interesting. There isn't a paper label and I can only make out "Wiener Mode (Viennese Fashion) on the liner. The Velour has a longer nap but not quite Soleil. The Velour has a vibrant color with high gloss and easily dry creases.

"Wiener Mode" is barely visible at the bottom. Looks like an eagle but can't make out the crest. Any ideas? I will see if I can come up with a better photo.
