Two new, to me, hats.

Dobbs Golden Coach Savoy Mink &
CHAMP Spaceweight. The CHAMP has a very cool liner.[emoji106]

Very nice finds, Héctor. I found a Dunlap spaceweight myself recently; the liner is fabulous. I like the shape and colour of the Dobbs.

Resistol Beaver 3X

I’m generally partial to the Fedora/Trilby lines.. have a handful of caps and recently added my first Homburg. And while a couple of my hats may have had some western cues. I did not have any full on western/cowboy hats. But when I came across this Resistol XXX Beaver in approx my size for a whole 4 dollars... I knew this one had to come along with me.

Well this sure is a whole lot of hat!

Rainy day here not the best for getting pictures... but they show well enough to tell me to stick to fedoras. [emoji38]

Not for four dollars it won't. At that price you'd have to buy a hat in any style. That is a lot of hat, but with some reshaping you could make it work.

It has a felt color and a very interesting and classic brim+ribbon combo and finishes for Mayser, Huckel and other brands of those producers with the addition of wind cord, rare to find in hats sold in Europe. Sometimes it happens for those distributed in Germany, I remember having a Borsalino with that thing

The measurements are as follows: the crown is about 11 cm. bashed, the brim is 6.5 centimeters and the ribbon is 3 centimeters

It has a small flaw: that of having the lining detached for at least 50% of its circumference, for the rest it is perfect. It was sold in Bremen - Carl Sick shop

What I really like about this hat is the change in color of the felt in different light conditions and, above all, its proportionate profile
Too bad it is a hat that will have to find an home

Bradford Ltd. XXX Quality Deluxe arrived yesterday. Felt is perfect, was a little grungy, gave it some steam, a good brushing and re-crease.

I had been coveting this hat for quite some time. The navy blue box pleat bow is quite something. This was part of an exchange with @M Hatman and has been getting a lot of head time lately.

It actually looks good on you. Give it some time to get used to it and you’ll be a believer. You can also trim the brim back a bit if you’re like me and prefer something less than four inches.

I agree with DeadlyHandsome that it looks good on you. When you're used to wearing narrower brimmed hats it can take a while to get used to a hat with a considerably wider brim. I'd give it some time, maybe play with brim shapes to see if you find a shape you like better.

I love your and other folks early catalog postings. Wish I had rembered to download and save them all. I understand exactly what you mean about this one being a soft hat. It is indeed, and not a stiff felt Homburg.

I would surmise, though, that that is how Homburgs were conceived to be back then and indeed how we expect them to be now: stiff felts that can't be brimmed down.

In my mind, a Fedora can be worn brim up, I sometimes do with some of mine as we all do, or brim down. It has these two possibilities. The brim on the Harald, however, cannot be worn down, only up. Therefore, and again, in my mind it's a Homburg, or at least in the family of. A soft felt Homburg, though perhaps a misnomer, is, perhaps, a better name for this one. Better than the misnomer Fedora in my humble opinion.

As you say Mark, whatever one wishes to call it, it's a great hat, and one heck of a piece of history [emoji145].

I will say just for clarity.....the industry definition of "soft hats" covers homburgs also. "Stiff Hats" are Derby's (Bowlers) and felt Toppers. Silk and silk plush toppers are in their own classification.
Many "soft" hats including post-modern (after WW2) and even new fedoras and westerns will have a stiff brim (to retain shape) with a soft crown. So a stiff brim alone does not indicate a "stiff" hat.
Edit: Also not all Fedoras are "snap brim", in fact many (even modern) are not.

As others have already said, I think it's a good look for you. Tweak it a bit to make it your own and then own it.

Thanks man.. I will. I find that seems to be the case anytime I get something with a wider brim than I am used to... it seems gigantic.. and then after a bit my smaller brimmed hats look so tiny. LOL

One thing I was a bit surprised about being used to the softer hats... was it’s stiffness. I knew the westerns were a bit more stiff than fedoras and a lot of,that is for utility. But man.. you could whack someone over the head with this thing. LOL
