Simple is simply the best, Part II.

New to me Dobbs Cross Country. Unlined, shallow teardrop crease, no pinch, super light weight, brown on brown. I would compare the felt to my 50's OR and Strat, it is really amazing and so light I hardly know I have it on.

Not my usual but when I saw 7X CB I read the description and looked at the photos once. The BIN was a nice one. I don't think many others saw it before I pulled the trigger. After having plenty of time to study the pics I suspected it might be Canadian made with the foil size tag. I reached out to a couple of buds and they had suspicions as well but no confirmation. It was very dirty and musty with with some markings under and along the edge of the brim. Steaming and sponging helped but it needed a gas bath. That helped but some markings remain that I'll worry about later if I keep the hat.

As soon as I picked it up it was obviously a 7X CB. The finish is as fine as a great suede or buckskin. The density of the felt is what draws me to these hats, along with how easy it is to mold the crowns. They will 'pop' in and out as you please. This one is particularly soft and is finished to more of a dress weight than either of my other two. The brim is as flexible as Gumby and transitions from the down to up position with ease. The Mode edge is really thin and finished to a standard I've not experienced. I have a 20 mode edge and have owned a Guild Edge and Cavanagh and they were all nice but don't match up. Clear Beaver on the liner tip with maple leaves all around. Oil skin liner tip protector. Great 2" sweat and the liner is heavy with the seam to the right. The ribbon could be described as Champagne in color and it is unique. Look at the pics in direct sun. Hard to find a stitch anywhere on it or the bow. Nice and straight blocking. 2 1/2 x 5 1/2.

Most days these would be a standout hat, but today I’m bottom rung with this Stetson Sovereign Twenty. 2 3/4” felted edge brim and a wonderful gray with strong blue tones.

Nice! I've never seen a felted edge on a western style hat like that. I like it. I imagine the felt to be pretty thin and lightweight?

Thank you, sir. Hope you and yours are well and your work is keeping you indoors in the cool spots.
All's well down here. Hope the same up your way. Sure looks it from the hat. Gonna try to get up that direction when it cools down a little and take in some fall color in the hills. Maybe we can catch up and I can see that 7X up close.

Sometimes, rarely, even some old hat is my size
Lobbia BB 7 R.jpg

"Lobbia" Barbisio REX size 59, black felt
Lobbia BB 5 R.jpg
Sold in Berlin at the Max Eckard store
Lobbia BB interno totale R.jpg
The interest for this Barbisio is the fact that inside the sweat band there is stamped the origin of the skin: Paris - France and a date that I cannot decipher the month and day, but the year is 1939 (for a clear picture I have to use professional equipment)
Lobbia BB 4. Rjpg.jpg
The felt is very soft and silky, in its composition there is fur and also wool
Lobbia BB 3 R.jpg
These are the dimensions: 5.5 curled brims, 14 cm open crown. the finishes are first class
Lobbia BB 2 cupola aperta R.jpg
A eighty years old hat from Sagliano Micca will worth some thrilling in delivery

Once upon a time, in a closet far, far away, lived a beautiful princess named ONE HUNDRED. Handsome prince RANDY discovered her and freed her from the turmoil of darkness. To enhance her elegance, Squire Rick, also known as the PHOENIX, was consulted by the good prince. The decision was made to put the princess in the hands of ART the FAWCETTmaster to make her radiant beyond compare. The master worked his magic and gave the princess curls and a crown fit for a (Mc)QUEEN. Even TOM HORN was impressed with her beauty. From that day on, the prince and princess, now king and queen, lived happily ever after in holy hatrimony!

I'm the same on the colors. Moon used to assist me with the boxes and their dates. No idea if this box is original other than what the seller said. Appears to be old. It's paper printed graphics applied like wallpaper over the box. The box and its top have fabric taped seams with a heavy string tie on each side. Some things just seem to show their age and this box does. What age? I don't know.
The box is a piece of art work in its own right. You scored a double win there Bama. Love to see more pics of it.
