P. & C. Habig Wien "Special", P. & C. Habig's "Special Qualität" Reine Handarbeit Berlin Friedrichstr. 82a, 58cm possibly early 1930s. This hat was made specially for the P. & C. Habig Berlin store at Friedrichstrasse 82 which didn't survive WWII. Everything (felt, sweatband, liner, ribbon, workmanship) about this hat is of the highest quality and in excellent condition. The sweatband is very similar to some P. & C. Habig Wien Silk Top Hats of the same time period. The medium weight black felt has a very soft hand and easily dry creases. It also came with the original P. & C. Habig "Hutmacher" Wien Hat Box.

Finally getting pics up of my St. Regis. I've been in the market for a grey Homburg for some time to round out my color choices. I don't wear Hommies much, but lacked both this color and a St. Regis to complete formal choices for myself.

It's been sitting in a local vintage store since October, but for whatever reason, I held off buying it. I walked in a fee days before Christmas and told myself, if it was still there, I was buying myself a present. It was. I did.

It has a rather incorrigible wind trolley which I suppose I'll have to tend to atalk-cdn.com/20181230/34b75476b21bc70acc64e4cea741a419.jpg

Sent directly from my mind to yours.
Congrats, Jim. Great find. You've done the homburg nation proud with this one!

Outstanding hat, Steve. Such superb craftmanship and in such a great condition. Since it doesn't have the date on the label like other Habig hats, it makes you wonder when they started to do date their labels.

Stefan, Thanks! Could be early 1930s but most likely acceptations. It's possible this one could be mid to later 1930s or very early 1940s (less likely).

Well, the Amish hat came in today.
It's everything I expected and more! Built right, big brim, good sized telescoped crown.
Lining AND ribbon!!
Perfect!
BUT...
I found out the hard way that 7-3/8 is about 1/2 an inch too big of a crown for my head.
Not a big problem though...hehe.
The plan is to take a shower with it on and dry it with a blow dryer on low heat to shrink it up a bit.
When it fits properly, I'll post pics.
:)

Please, by all means, post before and after pics of the results. That technique takes some dedicated imagination!
I hope the sweatband is good leather.

Well, change of plans!!
After a good strip of this stuff under the leather headband...
20190103_132410.jpg

The hat fits PERFECTLY!
Actually a little tight, but I reckon that'll subside once the foam compresses some.
All that's left is to build a paracord hatband for it and shape the brim and I'm golden!

If I had a dime for every time I've seen that stated in the Lounge... :p

See you posting another new hat in this thread soon.

BTW -- the hat looks great and you wear it well. Congrats!

Thank you!!
I am soooooo excited to wear it out and about tomorrow.
:D:p:D:p:D:p:D:p:cool::):):)
I'm trying my hardest not to use the last of my paracord to build a hatband for it at work.
I may just take the one I built for the bolero off and put it on the Amish.
