Three new hats - a panama and two caps

About a month ago we had a visit by our hat supplier, at the hunting store where I work, naturally I ordered a few hats for myself :) Yesterday the packet from the supplier arrived, including my new hats:

A nice Ecuadorian panama with a black cotton band and sweatband - it was quite cheap, but the quality is not bad at all. Now I just need to find that white linen suit

Hat_driver03.jpg

An off-white/beige striped linen drivers cap - a really nice summer's cap

An extreamly nice 8-panel leather newsboy with fold-in ear-warmers and a warm lining - a perfect winter's cap. Expensive, but definitly worth it

Very nice panama! Lets see a shot of it on!

As you wish :) A few quick snapshots, sorry about the bad lighting:

Being used to my AB-Dlx Indy it will probably take some time before I get used to the narrower brim and lower crown.

Looks good on 'ya, Splatt -- and welcome to the Lounge! I had the opportunity to visit Strand Hatters when I was visiting Sydney a year ago, and it was great to be surrounded by so many nice Akubras at one time. :)

Feel free to post more of your Akubras. Oh, and by the way, how are the rest of the guys in U-2 doing...? :D

Cheers,
JtL

Thanks Jimmy the Lid...the International just feels so comfortable and yep...i love the way it sits and looks on my noggin :)

You would be correct in saying that Strand Hatters has a great collection of Akubra's...as far as i know they are the only hat shop that is actually owned by Akubra. City Hatters in Melbourne is also a classic and has been around since 1910...and now i am back in Melbourne it will no doubt become my "local supplier".

If you do want to see more of my hats, I've just posted over on the "How did you start wearing a hat?" thread and included a bunch of photosfrom over the years.

And yes...i get the Bono and U2 thing quite often...though i have never seen him wearing a hat other than his straw cowboy one. ;)

I do have to warn you, though, that you must tilt the hat slightly forward and to one side, otherwise they can make you look like an old man. lol

I got home from the market this afternoon to find my new beret from John Helmer awaiting me in the mail box.

I like it.

I went for a cotton beret rather than the traditional wool because I wanted something lighter to wear in the summer. I'll probably buy a wool one this autumn.

Thanks for stopping by, have a GREAT DAY!!

Thought I'd take a chance on it. Figured if it was too small for me (as I thought would be likely) I'd sell it on.

It arrived a few minutes ago. No size tag, but it fits me like a 7 3/8! Sweet!:eusa_clap

Cheers,

A deal to rival one of Dinerman's

Scored this lid for $10 plus $7.50 shipping.

It's one of those rollup Borsalinos, complete with the travel box. Here's how it looked when I got it ...

And after I steamed and brushed and massaged it into a more presentable condition ...

I'm hoping some of our more Borsalino-versant brethren could be of some assistance in dating this hat. Here's that standard tag, probably our best piece of evidence ...

http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f83/tonyb56/IMGP1000.jpg

Note that it's a Punti size 5 1/2. When did they cease using Punti?

I find it curious that this bit is in English ...

http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f83/tonyb56/IMGP1001.jpg

Even though the hat was sold through a retailer in Rome ...

Standard Borsalino logo here ...

Quite the elaborate bow, eh?

^Gorgeous, toobacat, but I hate to see the wind trolley go.

Odd that one of the roll up hats was fully lined. I thought generally they just had a little medallion on the top.

Great score. I took a look at the auction. I have no idea how you turned that one up.

Alan, i still have the wind trolley, they sent it back with my hat. Not sure why they didn't put it back on. I was pleasantly surprised when it arrived that I had bought a green hat.
