Bolthead, That's definitely a nice Resistol. They did several airplane hats, inspired by the three digit Boeing numbers. You could collect them all! :) :eusa_clap

Got these Friday.

The first is an Imperial Stetson, size 7 1/8" (just my size). It has about a wide 3" brim and around a 4 1/2" crown. Tan in color, it has decorative stitching along the brim and on the felt ribbon. I remember Dinerman has one very similar. It has the softest felt I've ever seen. Even with steam it doesn't want to keep a bash, there's no stiffener at all.
Unfortunately it has a couple of stains and moth nips, though they are on the top of the crown so they can't be seen when it is bashed. $10.

I'm very excited about this one. It is a 1940s Champ "Diplomat" in "light Ecru". Size 6 7/8", it's a tad small (though it fits me more like a 7") but I was able to stretch it to a more comfortable size. It's in absolutely perfect condition. It's an unusual pinkish-tan/salmon color with a chocolate-brown ribbon and tan edging on the brim. Looks very much like a Whippet. $4.

thunderw21 -- a great pair of lids. The Stetson is reminiscent of the Dobbs Gay Prince. The Champ is utterly "Whippet-esque." Very nice!!! :eusa_clap

Cheers,

Here's a pic of the Champ in use, correctly tilted for added attitude. :p

Well, my first vintage hat showed up today, a Churchill Open Road clone. I'm very pleased with the condition but the bash needs some work. I plan to keep the Cattleman's crease and the crown is fine, it's the brim that got a little out of whack in shipping so I just have it turned down all the way around for now.

Cool hat, Joe! How's the felt?

The felt feels great to me but since this is my first vintage hat, I really don't have anything to compare it to. The crown is nice and firm but I'll have to see how easy it is to work with the brim.

Any idea on an age of this hat?

It has a black sweatband (which became the norm. during the 1960s) so I'd guess 1960s-1970s. I have yet to see a Churchill with a pre-1960s brown sweatband but I'm sure they are out there.

Good color, your hat.

Ya learn something new every day. I thought the brown/black sweatband was just a Stetson thing.
