Thanks, Fruno!
it must be a special tiger indeed to make your day, Alan, with your collection...
the ribbon definately has a burnt hair smell, and something cellulose-y mixed in, hard to tell with that protien fiber funk whether it's more cottony or papery. Still, older than I first thought. Also, something I just noticed about it is the brim binding is not centered, it's about 1/2" on top of the brim, and 3/8" below.
That brown one you posted it amazing...who is the maker?

The hat I posted is a Hawes Von Gal... detailed pictures in the dedicated thread.

I think your sense of era of your new Tiger Special is spot on. Some of the elements - different variation of the logo imprint, round size sticker (square in mine) suggest it is likely a little later than the one I purchased from Dinerman. Was there a union label behind the sweat?

Thanks! That truly is a beautiful old hat!
No union label or other handy clues present on the Tiger...I may have to do a little more digging on that Brandt's patent date to see how big the window was between applying for the patent and when it was granted. That might narrow it down.

You're rockin' the acquisitions lately, Moe! The Flagship looks great. The petersham ribbon is interesting. Do you think that's an after market thing?
I've seen lots of Flagships with that type ribbon ... all of them that I have seen with a mid ribbon have that type for some reason

pretty sure it is original

Thanks Fruno! I have had some good luck since I decided to stop snapping at minnows and wait for the nice fat salmon to swim by...:)
I haven't seen Petersham on too many other men's hats either. Just one more special thing about it. Ole's post in the Flagship thread seems to indicate Petersham was used on the earliest models.

Here's a wide brim panama I bought recently and had my way with it. Replaced the fabric sweatband with a vented leather sweat. Also added silk pinch protectors from and back, found that this really helps to hold shape, and finished it off with vintage crown ribbon. Brim is 3" and nicely back woven. So far the brim is staying where I like it but I may add a narrow binding to give the brim some shape.
