These are the sellers pics of a gamble I took on the ebay. What arrived looked a little worse for wear. I gave it a shower and a little shaping and I'm pretty happy with the result.....

According to Brad Bowers' Cavanagh dating page this one would be post '61. It has the famed Cavanagh felted edge, and with the possible exception of my 50s Borsalino, this is the thinnest felt I've ever handled. Cheap t.p. is thicker. I am truly blown away by how light it is. If a 60s model is this nice, I can't imagine what a really old one must feel like.

Looks really nice, Bob! Did you go there or order over the phone?
Thanks! I've been calling on and off for several months now looking for the hat. Called Monday and they had it. Got lucky. They took a few pics and described the condition, price was real right so I ordered it.

I didn't realize that they take phone orders. This could be dangerous! Who should I ask for when I call?

At first I didn't either otherwise I would have done it a year ago. They were absolutely GREAT to work with. I wouldn't hesitate to order sight unseen from them. Yes it is dangerous. VERY! Maria was the sales person who helped me out quite a bit. Very nice and accommodating re pics etc. Lupe also was very good to me. They'll look over the hats and tell you what's wrong etc. Steam em, clean em, straighten the brim etc... and they offered to bash the Stetsonian but I told em "no thanks." Lol.

Hutfabrik J. A. Seidl München probably early 1900s. This Melone is made of Wool which was common for pre WWII German and Austrian Stiff Felt hats. Top price point Pre WWII German and Austrian Wool Stiff and Soft Felt hats were of a high quality. The quality of this hat is excellent and it's in super condition (sweatband size tag still present). I was excited to find this Melone because Hutfabrik J. A. Seidl München was strongly linked to Mayser Ulm.

From "Mayser's Hutfabrik Ulm a. Donau" (1925)

"A significant expansion of the commercial foundations of Mayser Ulm arose when in 1921 the G.M.B.H. shares
the hat factory J. A. seidl, Munich went over and its owner, Mr. Seidl who had already 1908 taken at the factory Mayser interest was entrusted now with the dispositional overall management of the factory,
whereby the meritorious participation of Mr Seidl the Mayser Works Ulm was saved. "

Rundquist, Borsalino has nothing that can compare with such exquisite style and weave. I was not sure if I would like the Havana style, but seeing you wear it, sells me on the style. I like the low crown.

I am always amazed that a human being can weave such a fine weave. Congratulations on your recent acquisition and thanks for sharing....Dennis
