My one-size-up replacement taupe fawn Campdraft arrived on New Year's Eve after a two month backorder. Very happy with the new one & this one ended up with a diamond crease. Here it is just in from some time in the rain.

I've been fortuitous of late in my acquisition endeavors, having both good luck with online auctions, vintage shops, and antique malls. Plus, some stellar pointers and generosity of fellow Lounge members. I have fallen behind in documenting my finds. Here, I'll try to make up for part of that.

Pictured below is a portion of my haul since about the beginning of November. From lower left - Mallory Coast-to-Coast, purchased from Miamibruno; Schoble Homburg; Dunlap Superior; Royal Stetson (ribbonless, to be corrected today); Mallory "The Dallas;" and an Englebert Homburg, courtesy of the generosity of Lounge member St. Ignatz.

I have managed to get both Mallories in the Mallory Mile thread, and the Dunlap in the Dunlap Drive-in. I'll try to get the others photographed and posted in the next day or so.

And this doesn't count the 3X Beaver ORs I found for my wife and myself recently.

Thanks. And I'd like to make a point, considering the market for hats these days and the $600 Whippet. With the exception of the Coast-to-Coast, not one of those hats cost over ~$75 shipped.

I'm not trying to boast (but I am proud of that) - more I'm trying to point out that, with patience and determination, and more than a little willingness to take a chance and maybe have to do some refurb work, the vintage hat market is something everybody can play in with good results.

How lucky you are Jim! Plenty of scope it seems for finds over there - many available to ship to the UK, but my enthusiasm for browsing and buying from US sellers was soon killed off by the excesses of the Ebay global shipping program.
You have posted some great and interesting hats - keep going!

Thank you! I frequently hear from our UK and EUR Brethren that the vintage hat market isn't so nice as the one over here. I consider myself lucky. I've only been at this a short while, and I often reflect on what I've been able to pick up.

Fruno, I have to thank you. Last night over dinner my wife said,"You know, you've been buying a hat about every month. How many do you need?" So when I saw your post I called her into my study and showed it to her. Ha!

I'd like to introduce you to Grandma Anna's hat

I purchased this a few weeks ago off eBay, from a woman in Roswell, GA. The ad indicated it was her late grandmother's hat, who had passed away. Upon shipment of the hat, it shot up I-75 from Georgia, and right past me until it got to Allen Park, MI. It stayed there for a few days, then whizzed by me again, to Cincinnati, then finally back up to me in Dayton. My wife and I were having big fun detailing the adventure in our heads, and thought we might even start the hat its own Twitter feed (#Grandmashat). So, being the impish rogue I am, I wrote the seller and asked if grandma was feisty, as it seemed a little part of her took her hat on a last adventure. I also inquired her name, because I wanted to be able to tell folks the provenance. Well, turns out that, yes, Grandma Anna was a feisty one. I was told she gave 'em what-for into her nineties. My kinda lady!

Ms. Anna's hat obviously lost a ribbon somewhere along the way, and she replaced it with a navy blue scarf. Once I got the hat I realized the "moth damage" holes the seller wrote of were mostly the holes from the previous ribbon, which didn't appear to have been removed in a non-violent way. You can see the little white dots in the above photos - those are stitch holes from the original ribbon. This means I needed to get 1 1/4" - 1 1/2" ribbon to cover them. So, off to Etsy and Vintage Ribbons to find a replacement.

Still not the best seamstress, the ribbon and bow was a most of the day project yesterday. But it's rewarding work. Still need to work on my skilz, but I don't think it turned out too bad. Not one to counter a 90-year-old dead woman, I stuck with navy blue...
