Last week, when I posted about my good news from the doctor, I decided to take Fruno's suggestion andcelebrate with a couple of new hats, instead of just one. Actually, I got three. The first arrived a half hour ago.
I saw this one, a velour Borsalino trachten style traveler, on eBay with a below $40 BIN and free shipping. Just had to. :)

The felt is perfectly soft and floppy, no hint of stiffener in it. The fit is perfect, it has a 1 5/8" brim, basically needs to be creased just before wearing.
If anyone knows the approximate age, please tell! I see the numbers 21983 on the tag, it couldn't be that easy, could it? (1983, that is).
Have a great evening!

Although this definitely isn't the kind of pic most of us who follow this thread dream about, I assure you there is a hat in this box. "What hat?", you might ask. Well, therein lies the problem. I'm asking the question right along with you. I found a few hats on that auction site the other day and added them to my watch list. My wife picked one (or maybe even two) of them and ordered them for Christmas. I will update with MUCH more detailed pics come Friday. The excitement is TOO much! Haven't had a new felt hat in a couple years... Oh, the HUMANITY!!!

Just got back in town from a short holiday and found my Stetson Premier Open Road waiting for me at my office. Been waiting for this one for a looooong time but it was worth the wait. It is a really nice hat. Just dry creased a quick center dent and it took the dry crease well, albeit with a bit of "spidering". Not quite "vintage" quality but not a bad hat at all.

Thanks Anthony! I ordered this hat months and months ago when Jeff mentioned in one of the forums that he could take orders for them. I honestly had forgotten about the order until a few days ago when Delmonico called to get payment. Nice that they gave me the Stetson discount. I guess its a slightly early Christmas present to myself!

Here is my “new to me” 1960s “Mallory by Stetson” western. I bought it recently in the original box and it appeared to be unworn, but a little dirty and had a moth nip or two. I took it to Paris Hatters in San Antonio and had them clean it, trim the brim to 3”, and replace the string band with a new thin ribbon and bow to give it a more “vintage” western look. The yellow "blotch" on the crown is actually just a shadow, not a stain - Paris Hatters got it looking like new.

Here are the “before” photos from the auction:

The velour on this one is nice. Not quite like my German velours, but considrably better than my Stetson Sovereign or Knox Premier. The rope trim is a little wonky, but I am considering replacing it with a more "city" ribbon. Brim is 1 7/8" overwelt, crown to be determined. My guess at age would be 60's, but that is a guess only. Not sure where "torino quality" falls on Mallory's food chain, but it is a nice hat.
Worth the $15 plus shipping.:)

Nice Tyrolean style hat. The rope trim is far more fitting to this hat. A ribbon will make just another velour hat, imho of course. I have one of these velours (Austrian or German) and the rope is almost 2 inches high.

I wear it to annoy my girlfriend when we go out and she forces me to go to one of her tiresome friends' houses.
