Thanks for comments. This is one I made and first one that I flanged after lazily looking at my flanges hanging on the wall gathering dust.

I had to work late today and was cursing my luck as I sat in rush hour traffic, but as I inched by a little junk store on my route I could see this through the window, so I decided to circle the block and check it out. I wasn't getting home anytime soon anyway.

It's a full size or two bigger than what I normally wear, but it seems to have shrunk up some and with a little padding I can manage.
Added bonus - it's from a store in my hometown. Not one I'd ever heard of, so a little research is in order this evening.

Dale, great find and in a large size too! Looks like a Stratoliner but doesn't have the markings on the sweatband. I wonder if it could have been refurbished years ago by Stetson and the sweatband replaced? I have a hat that was refurbished by Stetson and it has the same manilla colored size tag. Probably not though because of the store name on the sweatband unless they did the refurbishing.

I have an Open Road like that. There was a time in the very late 1950s and in the early 1960s when Stetson didn't stamp the model name on their sweat bands. The round manilla colored size tags were used for Long Oval sizes until they changed to the square black size tags in the 1960s. By the narrow black sweat band and by the round manilla colored size tag, I'm just taking a guess at very late 1950s for Dale's hat(?) Someone who knows a bit more on this could chime in.

Thanks for the comments on the Stetson Perry, TJ, and Mike. Mike I'm with you in thinking it looks like a strat. It has a little bit smaller and way more flanged brim than the open road I have. And TJ it certainly can't be MUCH newer than what you say, because I did a little research and the Porter's dept. store in Birmingham closed in '63. The building they were in is still around, it was built in the teens, but I don't know if that is when the store started. Also, if it makes any difference to your estimate, the sweat is a dark chocolate brown color, not black. And it is fairly thick, maybe the thickest of any hat I own. The felt, on the other hand, is about the thinnest.
Regardless of the age, I'm pretty stoked to have found it. I've been after a Stratoliner type hat for awhile, and although this ones a little "broken in" already, I got a great deal on it.

Hückel (Weilheim) Chevreau, gray, size 57cm / measures 58cm. Probably late 1950s and with little to no wear. The felt color and finish are fantastic. Also great overall construction and detail work.
