BEAUTIFUL Mallory, Alan! The colors are fantastic and it looks completely unworn. The triple row of stitching is superb and it looks wonderful worn brim up with a slight curl on the sides. :eusa_clap:eusa_clap

That is a spectacular hat, Alan! Please add that beauty to the Mallory thread.

Saks Fith Ave Imported French Velour (Unk Manufacturer)

I just recently acquired this beautiful velour which is prestine condition. It was made in France for Sacks. It came in the original box which I'll post a photo of later. It has a 2 1/2" brim with a thin overwelt and a 5 3/4" open crown wrapped in a 1 3/4 grosgrain ribbon. Anyone care to put a date on this one? I'm thinking the 30s! Wish I knew the name of the French manufacturer.

Love it. The velour and the triple wilted edge look great, and the quality of that velour felt looks really "old" to me. Too big though!!!

Edit - Looks like a Dobbs-style sweat band bow, but overlapped differently. Also, very Fleur-de-Lis.

An ebay find spotted by Manfred, and kindly pm'd - Lembert (60's?):

Sorry for poor photos, I'll try and get one 'in situ':

It still needs a bit of steam and a brush, but I finally cleaned the decomposing foam and cork sheet from the back of the sweat that had been used to shrink the hat down. It's a nice hat.

Just got this Knox Superfine (have not brushed the dust off yet).
It has a plastic crown protector. I'm thinking '60s.

Black sweatband.

7 3/8

Originally $12.95. I think I had an old '60s Dobbs that sold for $13 or thereabouts.
