Unbelievable! I managed to find a second hand shop where they sell hats. Most of them are for women, or are made of cloth, but I had a lucky hand today. I didn´t like it at first, but it has a perfect sweatband, which I could use in my grey hat. All in all, it costed only 3 bucks :)

The hat is quite modern, probably from the 80´s. The only inscription on the sweatband and the liner reads "The City Hat", but it´s definitely made in Germany (or some german speaking country).
The material from which it is made is probably felt and is very soft to touch, but hard to bend. Color varies from brown to very dark green, depending on light. (It´s probably meant to be brown, but...). Size 57.
The only thing I hate is that the stitches attaching the liner to the felt are visible. More than that, some dilettante made these four huge stitches on the upper part of the ribbon.

Now to the photo:

And now I need your opinions - Does it fit me well? Sorry for the photos quality.

I dunno, I think he looks like "Mr. Freeze" in that one! lol

That hat looks great on you Viper. Does it fit as well as it appears? Looks comfortable.

Thanks Gene & Bob. "Mr. Freeze" is the correct answer, Gene! lol
Like all the comments I read here about Akubras, this one was about a half size too big when it arrived. This was actually a good thing since I am a long oval but i have taken to wetting it once a day with the distilled water and then wearing it around the house as it dries. This seems to be helping to shrink it down a bit. It isn't uncomfortable at all.

Great hat Viperman! Not your usual at all but it looks really sharp. I like the wide brims.

donCarlos, if it is comfortable, I think it looks like it fits well and it does look really good. And for $3...

Lookin' good, donCarlos. And I think the long stitches are an interesting touch. The hat seems to be quite a find, especially for 3 bucks!

That one does look good on you donCarlos. I'd recommend you give it some time to get used to it and if you decide you don't really like it, then you can dissect the sweatband or whatever. You can't get a much better price than you got on that one!

I picked this up the other day from a nearby antique shop for £17 (it was labeled as a bowler hat). It's in great shape, though I'm unsure of the age. The liner says G.A. Dunn & Co, the adress in Picadilly Circus, and 'British Manufacture'. The sweat repeats the maker and also says 'genuine calf leather'. There's nothing inside the sweatband except a piece of thin cork in the back which was dried out and falling to pieces.
