PORTIS PATH

Received this Portis "Sterling Quality" yesterday after winning it on eBay. My first Portis. Undoubtedly from the late 50s or very early 60s. Features a plastic tip protector. An approximate 5 1/2" crown and 2 1/4" bound brim. Everything is in great shape on this hat as it looks virtually unworn. I gave it a good brushing and steaming last night and went with a center dent, though it may be telling me it wants a diamond. The felt is very responsive and easy to work with. It popped right out to open crown with only a trace of ghost bash and took a dry crease easily. Pics to follow. There is a reorder tag in the rear of the hat; however, it's placement under the liner makes it difficult to photograph.

beautiful piece
.... funny , the brim looks wider than 2 1/4 ... thin ribbon brims can be deceiving sometimes ... to my eyes anyway

New to me Portis I recently acquired from @buler from his 2018 Hat Sale. I changed out the puggaree ribbon with one I purchased from Art Fawcett. The black and gray was what came on the hat. My understanding is Portis operated from 1914 to the late 60s. So I thinking this is 60s. Unless Portis was made by another company after the 60s? It is listed as a "Mesh Weave" and is exactly that.

Love that patterned weave Bill.
Very rich colored straw. Wonderful hat.
Bet it’s lots cooler than those Brent Blacks.

Stunning Bill! Love that weave, it is so "organic" looking. Many thanks to @buler for offering so many great hats. I have not been able to take advantage of this :(

My first Portis hat. A long shot admittedly, because this is one in a puny size 6 3/4. Portis Sterling homburg in grey. Swan's down finish (liner) or Swansback Water Repellent (sweatband). Brim at 6cm and crown at 11,5cm at the center dent. Seems to be NOS and the felt is wonderful. If there's a member with an even smaller head than me, just PM me. Otherwise I might ask Penumbra hats to upsize it to fit me.

Does anyone happen to know the approximate date of hats with this liner style? I recently picked one up with the same liner and am curious if anyone here would know or has another good method for dating Portis hats.

Thank you!
