Alan congrats on the threesome. They are indeed the finest examples of the early Playboys I have seen. Just fantastic.

As you have documented the differences are indeed significant between the Bon Vivants. You pics capture the felt textures.

Just grand to see you new vented early Playboy. Thanks for sharing.

Best, Eric -

Thank you Eric... I know you are a Playboy enthusiast too. Of the three, the new brownie is the only one with a sweatband imprint matching the 1935 trademark filing. I just added some photos to the old Air Light thread, which has RLK's marvelous white Playboy. It appears that the manufacturing tag in his hat is the old wider three panel version. Robert, if you're listening, would love to know the LOTXXXX stamp in that one!

Happy to have now joined the Playboy club! Nothing really notable here. no retailer stamp on the sweatband, no tags or any other info under the sweatband other than the size tag. Sweatband is aging and getting a tad brittle on the edges but still hanging in there. a few small minor stains but not too noticeable. No moth nips at all. A nice gray with a drab tan grosgrain hat band.
It will be a fun lightweight hat to wear here in coastal South Carolina and I'm going to "look right in the right hat for fall!" :D

I spent some time re-reading and appreciating the pics of the hats and advertisements showcased in this thread. Enjoyable time.

This morning I wish to contribute a pictorial contribution of three unlined light gray Playboys. I deliberately chose these as they are similar in felt hue and all unlined.

They are different when viewed above the brim (matching the felt light gray ribbon, patined steel blue-ish and a charcoal ribbon). I see differences under the brim (the steel blue-ish ribbon has a glued in label).

Ribbon that matches the light gray felt fedora's interior below.

Contrasting ribbon interior pic below. I have a strip of sizing under the brim so that the hat fits snug enough not to get blown off my head in a sharp wind. This leather sweat is of better quality than the others. Still a light leather compared to later decades Playboy's with liners.

Steel blue-ish fedora's ribbon interior pic below.

Of course a trio of Bon Vivant's stacked pic to complete the showcase of these hats.

More to come.

Cheers, Eric -

Stetson Playboy. I've tried a couple of times going by names of colors from ads to identify the true color. It appears to be a gray with light green undertones & the ribbon appears to be an irredecent acqua green. Royal grade with nice felt, keyhole tag. I keep it creased in what was called the Collegiate style.
