Planning a Diamond Dave Beck 333

I guess my point is you deserve better than a jacket you won't wear much b/c it isn't what you expected. It should be. And if it isn't then DD should make sure it is. If it's your fault it's not right he can work a penalty into his remake. But he should remake it so you're proud to wear it and people who see it recognize the value of his product.

As a guy who hand makes things for people for a living I would never show angry negativity towards someone who does the same. The workmanship on the jacket (stitching, seams, leather itself) is really beautiful it's just the fit that is off for me. In terms of guys making these Dave is a relative amateur isn't he? The fit, especially in a size so different from his "example" jacket, must be by far the hardest thing to learn without having the person in front of you. Although $900 is a lot of money for me to spend aren't the Japanese repros at least twice that? I tried on a Real Mccoys CR in "my size" and it was monstrous on me, way worse than this one so I would have no way to insure proper fit unless a fit jacket was in play.

I have sent him a note and I trust he and I will work something out together. I appreciate the guidance, I knew it wasn't working but wanted to be certain it just wasn't my critical eye.

What elements are incongruent? Ive owned a Schott moto or 3 when I was like 18 - 25 but was never concerned with proper fit so they were likely massive on me as well...

Belt loops are placed wrong and are completely misaligned, to begin with! The belt is hanging at a freaking angle. And that's just to begin with. I mean, the belt buckle on these jackets sits over the main zip and what the heck is going on on DD jacket!? It's under the D-pocket. That's just not what this jacket looks like! Beck 333 is a super classy jacket and I don't know what Dave was thinking with this. I strongly believe you didn't get your moneys worth with this, not even if the fit was spot on.

Maybe full made to measure is your best bet. It seems that something got lost in the communication here between you and DD. I hope you get the jacket you had hoped to in the end.

I hand make things for a living as well and I'm telling you, I would want people to tell me if I've screwed up this much in my work. I would understand. But that aside, even Dave once said he's still learning to which some of us asked why don't you lower the prices accordingly? Aero trainee jackets are a considerable amount off the regular price.

Why don't you try Schott? They make the best, most realistic repro of the style which every maker from far east tries to copy, considering Schott invented the damn thing, and all that for $700.

the Schott motos are set at a certain length for the entire size range. I tried one on and it was longer than this although the rest of the fit was better.

I should have also said as a maker of things I always step up to make my customers happy. It has only happened a few times in 10 years but those things cost me WAY more than $900 to remedy. In one case I never got it right and ended up issuing an almost full refund losing me $5000 or so in labor/materials. It sucks. Luckily it is rare.

so weird when a clothes maker say something he just freshly made himself can't be fixed...
it is just leather panels and stitches...
even more when it is only to be made trimmer on the waist,
and the leather is brand new and in normal color they most likely have in stock

I think he measured the same distance from the main zipper left and right to place the belt loop totally forgetting it is an asymmetrical jacket.... and the loop it self is very oversized for a model that has a permanent belt as it was made so the buckle can pass through it.

I never asked for any specific girth, just filled out Dave's measurement form. There are 2 thin side panels that are likely where a tailor would "slim" it from. The lady I found locally has some very good reviews online and it is said she works with moto jackets quite a bit.

I know Dave is 1 man operation but if you fill out his forms correctly with all the information he asks for and it doesn't fit.....

If it was Aero ad this was only about the size, they'd just come to an arrangement for a trade-in and a re-make. But given the issues relating to the loops etc, I think this one may be on DD to make good on. Let's face it, this is not the first time we've seen this situation with him. He is about, btw, as he's been posting away on the VLJ, so I'm pretty certain he's reading this thread.

Aero remade my whole BR as it was too snug. Great service. I did not have to use the trade-in service.

Sorry I wasnt clear with Dave and therefore not correct in what I said here. I asked him if the back panel could be altered and he said no. I did not ask for a remake but I asked him to check out these outdoor photos and he can see it doesn't fit so we are going to go for a remake. Thanks for the help all.

Mistakes can be costly, but mistakes MADE RIGHT are priceless :)

My GW Modoc came out slightly too short in the back, but otherwise great. The jacket was too short in the back because, per the design, the bottom piece arches up from the sides, as opposed to going straight across the back:

reverse_view2.jpg

Had I taken a closer look at GW's photos, I would have seen the issue in advance and modified the back piece to ensure adequate length. Therefore, the problem was partially my fault (and partially JC's, as I spec'd a specific back length). Upon being advised of the issue, JC immediately agreed to remake the back panel and remove the arch to provide greater length, even though I should have seen the arch in advance. It is this type of customer service that distinguishes people like JC.

Similarly, my brown Frobisher arrived half an inch longer than I spec'd it. Some makers would argue that half an inch is within acceptable tolerances and turn a blind eye. Not Himel. He agreed to shorten the sleeves and back half an inch to match my specs.

Great hides/construction only go so far and will ultimately fail in the absence of commensurate customer service.
