So far I have to say the jacket os beautifully made, the leather amazing (heavier than I expected) and the hardware all looks wonderful. Unfortunately I'm still a bit dubious about the fit.

Ive only tried it on with t shirts as it is very warm here at the moment so it will probably look and feel better with a)heavier layers and b) a little break-in.

I will have my wife take some pics perhaps this weekend and I will write a more complete review soon.

Here are some fit pics. The leather is quite "stiff" which is slightly unexpected but of course it will break in and soften up with wear. The back feels a bit broad to me and overall I think (my fault) it is a hair long for me. Obviously this is a short (original) style and while the length might be spot on for another style I should not have added that extra 1/2" to Dave's original spec.

All that said I can't wait to wear it often so it breaks in then order the mouton collar from Shaul in NY.

Pd, lovely as the jacket looks, I'm afraid to my eye it's a size too large. If you're comfortable with it that's fine, of course, but I'm not sure I could live with it - I'm guessing it's pretty damn heavy.

Yes I would have to agree. It definitely is not a wow fit for me like my a2 was the moment i put it on. With a sweater i think it will be great so it likely wont get worn as often as Id hoped. If anyone is thinking of ordering a Beck from Dave and typically wears a size 38 to 40 and is a bit taller than me, say 5'9" to 5'11" or so let me know and maybe you can buy mine and i will order a slightly smaller one. It is really very nicely constructed and the leather is gorgeous. It hasnt been worn outside the house yet and likely wont be for several months.

He made mine a bit too large as well. Nice jacket either way.

It's hard to tell how it actually fits from those pics. The jacket looks absolutely beautiful tho. I always sized my lancer styled jackets with room to layer. Is it more than that? I dunno, from the front shot it looks really good, back shot is just too hard to judge.

I think with a sweater it will work very nicely. There is definitely room for layering. The collar rides up when I sit down which to me signals a too large fit. The back seems too wide for me but I do like the fit from the front so it's a bit of a puzzle.

When it breaks in there will likely be a different feel to it so I will see how it looks then. I do look forward to wearing it so that's good.

The width is definitely the issue. If I cinch the back while wearing it it looks perfect in the front. There is probably 1.5" too much width, maybe even a bit more...

It does look better with a sweater but damn what a disappointment after the wait. I am going to take it to a local leather tailor to see what she can do...

How did you come to an agreement on the measurements with Dave? Was this size his suggestion or did you provide the measurements you wanted?

I would go back to Dave and have a chat, see what accommodation can be reached rather than trying to get the jacket altered by a third party. If she cocks it up, then you're left with nothing.

Absolutely. Give the maker the first shot at righting where it went wrong. Otherwise, you break it, you take it and that's the end of the story.

Dave said he can't alter it. We never were specific about ALL the measurements. The length looks great and is actually shorter (thankfully) than I asked for. The shoulder a bit narrower (again thankfully) but it's the "girth" that doesn't work for me. The armholes are different than any other jacket I've had also, maybe "lower"?but I don't think that is a fault.

I never asked for any specific girth, just filled out Dave's measurement form. There are 2 thin side panels that are likely where a tailor would "slim" it from. The lady I found locally has some very good reviews online and it is said she works with moto jackets quite a bit.

It's a super huge gamble taking it to a tailor who probably doesn't have the same eye for detail that DD would. As Sloan said above, offer it as a trade-in for a remake and really detail what doesn't work in the current config. It's a shame to have to go thru the hassle but for the price paid you should be able to have an end product you are happy with!
