Yep - I thought so too.

I did a Google search "vargas gallery" and "vargas ziegfeld girl" - and came up with some good sites with the Flapper pin-ups.

I've always been partial to Art Frahm's work...

but Elvgren had some good ones too...

and Vargas was ok...

I guess it really comes down to

I really like redheads (my wife is even a redhead ) and Art Frahm used redheads frequently in his works...

I picked up a navy scrap book that had a sailors voyage and pic log from 1930 I think-I am at work right now. But in the back it had what we would call erotic pics of girls and guys. Not anything pornographic the pics are very well taken and modeled.

On the subject of artists using family members as models, it's actually fairly common and historic. If an artist started using his children as cherubs when they were small, by the time the daughters got to radiant adulthood it would just be something you did. Them most recent famous example is the late Lucien Freud (Sigmund's grandson) who did a number of famous nudes of his daughters and when admonished (by someone in the British press, I believe) replied, "My daughters have nothing to be ashamed of!" It's all in how you grow up, I guess.

This thread brings to mind the recent end of the resurgence of Second World War-styled pin up art in the Royal Canadian Air Force. Our onboard anti-submarine helicopter detachment had just such a shoulder patch and nose art on the crew and helo. Due to a recent report on the sexualization of attitudes in the military, all forms of suggestive displays in any forum are verbotten. The patches and nose art had to go.

Mind you, it was a scantily clad, buxom woman straddling a torpedo, with the saying "Our boys never lose", but still!
