I am not a jacket collector, Shooter. It just isn't in my budget. I have only 4 leather coats, one of them an A2 repro. I do enjoy looking at any flight jacket collections.

Right you are...Collecting can be expensive !!

I collect:

Firearms ( 35 last count )
Zippos ( 55 so far )
Old Cameras ( not sure how many now, gotta check )
Matchbox cars ( mostly Muscle Cars... Vettes, Camaros, and Mustangs )

Wouldn't mind seeing a pic of your A2 repo tho...

Vargas

My favorite pin up artist is Gil Elvgren followed by Vargas and then Earl Moran. Too bad some of the great ones were done post war.

My favorite pin-up artist is without a doubt Alberto Vargas.

The Varga pinups are a lot easier for me to do. For me, it's not so much Elvgren the artist but the types of pinups he paints. Petty's girls are .o.k. too but they seem to be too washed out to me.

I've always appreciated this type of art either in form of painting or drawing, or done by photograph.

A few years ago - I managed to find, through an online German seller/business, an original 1940s erotica booklet. It's photos (can't show though due to rules) but it is one of the neatest things in my collection of antiques. It didn't cost too much either.

Hey :)

Yes - that's why I appreciate it. I'm not the type to 'freak out' over nudity. To me it isn't pornography. The booklet has the name of "Revue de Paris" - but it doesn't state where it was printed - it just has that title on the front with a nude blonde and then on the back just the title.

It'd be nice to find out more about its origins though.

Hello,

I was wondering if someone could help me with finding more of the paintings done by Vargas that are of the 1920s -30s Flapper style women. I've been looking online and have found very few, but would appreciate it in advance if someone could help me with finding more.

If I don't reply right away - it is due to me not having direct access - so thanks in advance. :)

I honestly don't know where you could find those. Did Vargas paint pin ups in the 20's? I always thought he started up in the early thirties and didn't do that much then. Oh well, you learn something new every day. :)

One can google, "Vargas girls" ,and it will lead him to any number of websites with Vargas pin-ups.

In 1919, Alberto Vargas embarked upon an artistic career that would span more than six decades. Starting as the official painter for the Ziegfeld Follies, Vargas quickly earned a reputation as a brilliant artist, particularly for his ability to capture the radiant beauty of American women. His skills later took him to Hollywood where he painted portraits of the stars and created set designs for movies.

Question asked, answered and info confirmed. Thanks. I've googled Vargas before but never really paid attention to the oldest paintings. His WWII paintings are so popular, I never bothered to look anywhere else. I looked up Elvgren and found a bunch that was used on a number of aircraft. Strange thing though, Elvgren used the same pin up in different settings. I guess at times he ran out of inspiration.

Hello,

Yes - I did find some, actually one of the flapper ones was dated 1940 from what I could read on the painting itself. I realize that the WWII ones are the well known ones, but they don't interest me as much as the ones on the flappers. At first I wasn't sure when he did those, as I figured they may have been done earlier, but was surprised to find that at least the one I saw was during the '40s.

I'm going to see what more I can find on this specific subject (Vargas' flapper paintings).:)

Due to FL rules I can't post most of the images, but there are some that I can:

If interested in the others - please PM me, as those are the only two I can post on the forum.

Thanks.:)
