Flowers, 1944. These are young girls in "date dresses" but my 1943 Beauty & Charm book notes that flowers in the hair was a flattering look for older women as well.

I have so many pictures saved and trawled through just some of them to find these. I hope they inspire you!

Ann Sheridan always had amazing hair and I've come across quite a few pics of her with a snood.

How cute! The actress is Paulette Goddard. That's a still from a number the 3 of them performed in the movie "Star Spangled Rhythm," called "A Sweater, A Sarong, & A Peek-a-Boo Bang." lol

Such wonderful photos to get inspired by!

I have an affinity to get real flowers and a matching boutonni?®re for special events. Here is the best photo showing off the flowers in my hair and the second is what I got for the boyfriend.

I always find that using a more exotic flower works better, this time around I chose gardenia's they both look and smell great!
Wow, BakingInPearls, what lovely hair! Please forgive that this is a bit off topic in this thread, but I'm curious about the front. Is it a so-called pomp? Is it made of long bangs fastened back with pins (just a guess), or how does it look from the top/ behind? I'd like to make one of those.

Q for bakedinpearls

Oh My your hair looks lovely with the fresh gardenias! I am going to a black tie event shortly and have thought of wearing fresh flowers. Can you tell me if they stay fresh for the night? Do you give any particular direction to the florist to prepare them?

Trade Secret: How to Keep Blooms Looking Fresh
Store the flowers for your hair in a refrigerator or cooler until you are ready to use them. Mist your hairstyle with hair spray for the final time before attaching the flowers, as the alcohol and polymers in hair sprays can damage delicate blossoms. To wear a large bloom, like the cymbidium orchid above, cut stem to one inch; pierce it with a U-shape hairpin, and insert the pin into the thickest part of the hairstyle. For small flowers that grow in clusters along a single stem, like the asters above, wrap the main stem around a chignon, and secure with hairpins at one-inch intervals. Small individual blossoms, such as stephanotis, can be attached with a small beaded hairpin, pierced through the flower's center and stuck into the hair.

Fresh flowers are great. If they are kept refrigerated until they are put into your hair they should be fine. Have your florist wire up single blooms of whatever you like and your hairdresser can have a great time. In terms of wilting I guess i would warn you away from sweet peas, tulips, hydrangea, and super delicate types. Gardenias , though they do turn to ivory in the open air, are georgeous and like wearing incredible natural perfume that everyone likes. Other good ones are spray roses, daisies, freesia, stephanotis, alstromeria....really almost everything...I would say just go for it...they are perfect for a non princess wedding!

Google "fresh hair flowers" and you'll likely find plenty of other tips.
