I make hairbows for my daughter, and flower/feather clips for myself. The trick with silk flowers that aren't flat is to pluck the flower from the stem and snip off the green base. Be sure not to cut into the petal. You disassemble the flower and begin glueing it to your barrette/clip layer by layer. For the daisy, trim the end of the center piece off so that it will lay flat against the petals. For those of you who are better visual learners, there are plenty of tutorials on youtube.

Here is an example of the daisy I made to wear this weekend:

Feathers

Here are a few feather clips that I have made using simple materials from Hobby Lobby. I posted these pictures under another thread a while back (show us what you made, i think?), but they are probably more appropriate here. I haven't combined a flower/feather scheme yet, but will soon.

Also, another tip: yard sales/thrift stores have an abundance of silk flowers people are just tossing away. You can easily wash these with a damp washcloth and some febreeze to remove the dust and musty smell (if there is one). It beats spending $10 on a flower bunch that you may only want to use 1 flower from!

Those are fantastic! Did you happen to post how you make them? I have tons of feathers I've collected for millinery, but not all of them are really appropriate. I'd love to see a how-to!

I also wear flowers in my hair all the time - although last week there was a day where almost every woman I saw had a flower in her hair and I was wondering if there was a significance that I missed!

Today it's a fairly small dusty pink (artificial) rose, with green leaves. I wear it just in front of my bun, behind my left ear.

Hehe...maybe you started a trend. Funny when something you have always liked to do becomes mainstream. Kind of annoying actually ;)

lol I don't think so! But it's continued - as soon as the weather got warmer EVERYONE has flowers in their hair! Very pretty lady opposite me in the train this morning with a big white gardenia in her fringe.
