Hey folks, I'm getting ready to buy a Pinnacle from a friend at a huge discount. I haven't seen it yet, and I wondered if any of you would be so kind as to post some photos of yours. I searched, but several photos had been erased, or were no longer available. I sure appreciate it. Frank.

Hey frussell, I own a Pinnacle in the mink colour and I really like the hat. Sorry I don't have any photos to post tonight. Also I modified mine to have a thin brown leather hatband rather than the wider ribbon it comes with.

If you search around for snaps of a Stetson Temple that should do the trick. It is the same hat as the Temple only manufactured from beaver rather than rabbit. I also have a Temple in the sage colour and again I modified the hatband to be a thin ribbon.

I guess I like dimensional brims as my two Fed IVs and my customized Temple and Pinnacle are my favourite hats I own so far and definately get the most wear time.

If I get some time in the morning I will try and "russell" up a couple of snaps for you.

If it's the temple but in beaver, I would be willing to bet that this is one:

They used the temples for that film IIRC (temple of doom, natch), and the same hat made with beaver probably found it's way onto Ford's head more often then the lower grade one.

I believe the Stetsons were used in the plane scenes:

The hat from the Bridge scene is definitely a Herbert Johnson.

Here's a pic of my modern Stetson Temple in Mink. Not the same felt, but same block and specs:

edit to add:
Here's one on my head in outdoor lighting:

frussell, this one is "as is" from the factory. Its my "Made for Obama" Pinnacle and I have not worn it for collectible reasons. It does have a low crown similar in height to the Stetson Dexter.

Thanks Gentlemen

The one I've got coming is black, and I may have it modified. It was just too good a deal to pass up, low crown or not, about 1/3 of the standard price. I sure appreciate the pix, and that bound brim version of Mr. Dean's is pretty awesome. That may be where mine goes when it gets here. Have any of you found that other than the felt, the sweatband or the liner is different than the Temple? Thanks again, Frank.

On mine the sweatbands appear and feel about the same. The liners are however different. In the Temple the Stetson crest is printed on the fabric. On the Pinnacle the Stetson crest is stitched/embroidered into the fabric. Also the liner fabric feels nicer and there is some gold trim added in the liner crown encirclimg/highlighting the crest.

Description

I only asked because on one website I remember reading that the Pinnacle had a roan leather sweat, as well as a fancier liner. That would be great, but it might have only applied to a specific run of the model, like the Obama Inaugural edition or something for that specific store. That's my only problem with modern Stetson dress hats, the sweats are sometimes less comfortable than my Akubras, and certainly less than my VS whippet clone. Thanks, and feel free to add more info and photos. It'll be nice to have another pure beaver hat in my lineup, and I don't have another black fedora anyway. Frank

So, what's the crown height on the Pinnacle?

Will it take a narrower pinch in the front?

Thanks.
Sam,
Mine above was sent to Art Fawcett by the previous owner for a re-crease to raise the front pinch with a diamond crease. I tweaked it a little myself & can say it'll take a tighter pinch. My ribbon choice was narrower than stock so it made the crown look taller for sure. HTH

that's a great point to keep in mind, because it really does make a difference in the looks of the crown

Narrow ribbons do make a big difference!

Thanks for all the photos.

I may be going to hat purgatory for this, but I've been a bad boy. Been thinking about a stingy brim custom for a long time. This Pinnacle cost me about $99, and had the misfortune of arriving the same day as my new brim cutter. I hated to cut into a 100% beaver hat, but with that low crown and the brim arriving all tweaked and floppy, I lost control. I figured I would try the stingy in a beaver model before saving up for a VS and deciding later I looked silly, or waiting for an Akubra Hampton and paying more with shipping than I spent. I'll post photos of my crime later. Still trying to get the brim right. The good news is the brim cutter was a snap to use, and I'm not scared to trim my own hats anymore. Frank.

Fire Away

Not quite done with the brim curl yet, and hard to see the semi-teardrop bash, but here's what it looks like now:

I never remember to post "before" photos, but it was a mess.
