I am consumed with the Sportclad/Star Sportswear/Kurland jackets, I dreamed about one last night and made a deal today. It is the size 42 that was on ebay forever until she lowered the price then I ask for size confirmation. I confirmed the size tag is present, throat latch, 40s Talon zipper. She sent measurements to show her numbers. Describes as, like new, and pictures support that. I just got a wool lined size 40 and a Steerhide Kurland labeled MC size 36/38 recently. The Steerhide has the same unique quality, it is beautiful! Nice to have both leathers to compare, both are outstanding, some of the finest of the era. These jackets are nice. The size 46 Sportclad is not my size, it is a true 46. I know how the 40 fits so got my fingers crossed. Doubt I would find another mint one in size 44.

This is the size 46. The size 40 has the shine worn off, but is a beautiful hide.

One of my all time favorites too! These fit so nice and the leather is fabulous.

I just received this one: has some different features from my others.

Are the epaulets are your jacket straight cut or pointed like this? is your throat latch detachable or sewn on?

This jacket has the separate Horsehide tag.

the position of the handwarmers tho, and I think that is a long jacket for a crosszip

I thought it looked a little long in the body in relation to the sleeve length, though I'm not sure how far that's also affected by moving the handwarmers up and deleting the chest pocket from the "regular" P-type look.

So strange to think about Euros watching a US show like "Pickers"... As far as the commonality of vintage halfbelts, they are not insanely rare (any curated secondhand boutique will have several) but in general I'd say all moto styles, car coats, and Letterman jackets are far more commonly spotted (at least in Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, Michigan, Missouri, and New Orleans - parts of the US which I frequent most).

The show runs on a couple of UK channels, alongside other, more UK equivalents. It turns up some interesting stuff, though I'm frequently disappointed by how often instead of making any effort to restore stuff they seem to decide to sell it at an inflated price as "art" or some such.... Be interesting to see what the store is really like. I liked the lady who was in several series as their admin / office manager, she seemed to have a genuine interest in vintage stuff beyond it being a business thing. I did find it interesting to see when they dealt with a buyer aside from the picking runs - I remember one episode they fitted out a room for Bill Shatner.

Patti doesn't look impressed! The fringing and lacing wouldn't be for me, but that's a nice looking hide.

The more I look at this, the more I like it. Though I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t wear it much.

Nomenclature is a bit off: the P37 BD tunic had a flap over the buttons; this looks much more like the P40 "economy" pattern that has the buttons exposed. The collar reminds me more of an American 'Ike' jacket, but that's a sensible adaptation for how it sits when made of leather. The standard collar on the BD tunic wouldn't sit so well as this.

It's a jacket that would look great with a pair of forties cut khakis, Iron Rangers or similar, and a collar and tie under it, that real 30s/40s sporty-casual look. One I'm very fond of.

I would in a heartbeat. I think this has a very cool, retro-futurist look to it. Like something Ming the Merciless' elite troops might have worn going up against Buster Crabb's Flash Gordon.

One day I'll pick myself up a natural leather. I'm not particularly a fan of how they look new, but the aging process is so unique... I have a leather sleeve I bought for a tablet some years ago that is now mostly used as a mousemat, it has darkened, aged, taken on a few stains - it looks fantastic. The idea of doing the same with a jacket appeals.

This guy's boots look pretty cool too.

Is it? Nice shearling can be pretty expensive.

I'm not a fan that mc jacket btw. Sleeves look like stove pipes and those zippers look odd without the double welt.

Yeah, good shearling is a much more luxurious leather than regular horse/cowhide. I've read that you can easily mess up the tanning mixture which can cause the hair to fall out - Something that often happens with time on badly tanned sheepskin. Quality shearling is the best you can get out of leather IMO so it also makes sense to me it's pricier.

I remember reading a few years ago that there'd been a significant rise in the cost of quality shearling hides, which led to a marked jump in the price of B3s / Irvins / et cetera from the repro makers. Can't recall the details as to for why, but it was very definitely a thing.

natural vegtan looks fine as new bone yellow, then it turns pink/ flesh (impossible to combo with any color stay in the sun to tan), then tan (Ok to wear again), then orange tan (pretty hard to match again and it stays like this for awhile its pretty stable in this color) this is when I lose my patient and use oil to darken. into caramel brown (much easier to match)

Oh, I know. I've been following Backlash for two years now, even posted about it here but got no feedback at the time so I stopped but I love most all their gear. Especially their leather pants which are ALWAYS sold out. . .

They had the most perfect red Perfecto for a long time, too but I see that it's gone now or rather replaced with different style. It was just like Schott, only in the most fantastic red calf ever.

all my natural vegtan, only the wallet is varnished. Jacket is 1.5 yr, wallet almost 4 yrs, wristbands all around 1-3yrs with most wear and exposure to water and direct contact to skin.

This is the color I’d want.

That color state is pretty stable, my wallet got into that caramel tan after 1yr stayed in that color for 1-2yrs so far, my jacket since last obenauf treatment is also in this color range and seems pretty stable not picking stain or waterspot as easily.
Hopefully it stays around this mid honey caramel tan for long time, as i dont hurry to get a darkbrown jacket.
