Ton's reference to the Langlitz Japan site reminded me that I had fallen in love with this jacket the first time I saw it there. I incorporated some of these original Columbia features into my new Langlitz, which according to UPS will be arriving tomorrow!!!!!
Now we all have something to look forward to seeing tomorrow! Post it up when you can...will you be spending the day at home staring out the window? I love that kind of day...

The Buco J-100 which this is a repo of was always intended to be a longer jacket. The advertisement here says it can be worn tucked into your pants. Also check the illustration, the sleeves length is virtually the same as the body length....definitely a longer jacket by design.

The J-100 was an unlined leather "shirt." I assume it would be much easier to cram inside one's pants than a more conventional "jacket." Or, maybe those guys were just really, really tough...

I own a Vanson/ThurstonBros PLU-3 Comet, a cafe racer featuring three additional inches of length, so about the same thing. Mine is quite form-fitting at the bottom, but there is no way it could be tucked in unless my pants were up-sized about six inches. That, and I would have to actually *want* to tuck it in. I might not know a hell of a lot about fashion, but if there's one thing I've learned from you guys, it's that I shouldn't tuck coats inside waistbands....

So I got to thinkin . . . I often come across photos of cool jackets owned by others, and I struggle to find an appropriate thread to post the photos. Sometimes there is a brand specific thread, but other times there is not. Sometimes I am forced to start a thread for a particular jacket, solely to share the photo, even though the photo probably does not warrant a thread of its own. So, I figured its time that we have a depository for all the random photos we come across depicting cool jackets that we would like to share with our TFL brothers and sisters, so that we don't have countless individual threads for individual jacket photos. In other words, we should have a jacket porn thread (I elected to exercise a modicum of decorum and leave "porn" off the thread title).

Great idea for a thread. We have DinermaN'S thread for vintage photos of leathers being worn back in the day, and dedicated Irvin original and repro threads, but notyhing of this particular ilk, really...

Yeah, Aero LVC, as identified.

Aero (don't love it, but timely given the newly released film):

I kinda like this.... I don't want to spend jacket money on an A2 again, but if I did, I do quite fancy this one. As lnog as it wasn't associated with the less savoury interpretations of the originsal King Kong, I'sd hate anyone to think I was prejudiced!

That's an LVC/Aero jacket. I see them (possibly the same one, being relisted endlessly) on eBay all the time. Can't say I like the painting on the back at all.

Not to my tastes either. It was a repop of an original jacket, but, eh.... I mean, I'm cool with peopel wanting to reproduce a hidtorically significant jacket or whatever, but if all it is is a cool old jacke,t it's somehow diminished if what you get is a big ole rack of identically "aged" jackets with the same "aged" painting on them....

It's based on an older 1950s Buco J-82 jacket (according to the Rin Tanaka book)

THat original jacket certainly seems to have been the original inspiration, though the front of the Aero/LVC modsel is somewhat different. I think the one in Superfluous' photo was the jacket pictured here, when one of our members sold it:
http://www.thefedoralounge.com/thre...ro-levi-lvc-2002-horsehide-thunderbird.76268/

AFAIK, Aero only put this design on one jacket.

That said, I thought they were all the blue/black colour, the same as the model Aero later revived as the 'Speedster', but I found this phot on the Googles too....

Clearly a stunning jacket, but does this strike anyone else as being a few inches too long? Hard to tell where the belt line of his pants rests, but I feel it would look significantly better a few inches shorter. Maybe I'm in the minority.

As noted above, some were longer jackets by design. I believe these originated out of the racing circuit, and were cut longer so that when the wearer bent over the fuel tank of his bike, the jacket didn't ride up too far and expose the lower back.

Love to know more about that..... looks sort of like an Aero ThunderBay recalibrated as a dedicated motorcycle jacket.

I'm hoping I look this cool in my Aero 1920s Work Coat which is a very similar style when the remake arrives!

Nice. I didn't used to be so keen on these mid-length leathers, but the style has really grown on me - especially when worn as a spring alternative to a blazer, with collar and tie...

Who knew??

HH from Vanson is still available...but no soup for U....SA
Although if I'm being honest it doesn't look like a very nice HH at all....

These have been sitting there on the website as Sold Out for quite a while now and yeah, they look like made from plastic bin bags... Though they do get nicer with time.

It's really, really tedious that all this stuff is exclusive to Japan only. Harajuku is probably the wildest ride most of these jackets will ever see...

In this day and age its just ludicrous that there are still geo-specific restrictions in place. So many businesses are still stuck in the past when it comes to the worldwide marketplace.

Some kaffs...

Freewheelers um... Speed Demon, right?

Don't recall. Cal, I think?

Himel Kensington

Vanson Model A or B, hard to tell from the front...

Beau Breed

One that I saw on StyleForum and really liked. I don't recall the name but I thought it looked very nice tho I may be in a minority here

The last one, from the "washed" hide to the stitching pattern seems to be a CCP jacket.

Problem is HH not counting cordovan seems to be quite a niche market outside Japan
1) most Westerners go to Vanson for their competition weight leather, HH in their cases would be too lightweight;
2) even Legendary has taken quite a while to sell all those Legendary Black Stallion.
Slaughtering horse for meat or skin tends to raise some eyebrows in some countries. Doesn't seem to be a good selling point outside Japan.

Tend to agree although, my assumption, which might well be incorrect, is that the horses used for these jackets perish via natural causes...not in a slaughter house.

My understanding is different from yours. It would be quite difficult to sustain a "regular" supply of HH relying only on the nature. My understanding is that although there is no actual law banning the practice in the States, almost all of the slaughterhouses in the States are gone due to public pressure and that tanneries in the States have to rely on imports from countries that still allow such practice.
In any case, those famous Italian and Shiniki HH are from countries that still regard the meat as fine cuisine and still allow such practice if not for the HH.

Very interesting. I honestly didn't know that! Perhaps I'm more naive than I care to admit.
