People who talk to themselves

I really dislike anyone discussing their legal issues in public on a cellphone. I've heard custody issues SCREAMED into phones, divorce cases, and in a couple memorable cases felony trials. (Why would you discuss crimes you've committed in public? Discretion if not morals would seem to come into play, wouldn't they?)

agreed! another thing we can do without? For the most part, I just ignore whoever is on a cell phone...sometimes its amusing, sometimes annoying when you know they're trying to get some attention.

Okay, we've all got caught either talking or singing to ourselves...but, what about the people who go down the streets having full on conversations or cussing at absolutely no one at all? I've got one that daily goes walking past my house and is really starting to freak me out...do these guys freak you out as well? Or...are you that kind of 'person'?

I talk to myself, but it's more like thinking out loud than having a full out conversation.




There is this guy on my street who seems like a regular normal guy, he's married, has a child and is very nice but, he does the weirdest thing. A few times a day, he walks up the street and screams at the top of his lungs "I'm Puerto Rico!(not I'm Puerto Rican, just as I wrote it). Or Let's go Weirfield, Let's go!(the name of my street). Or Teah!(his daughter's name, but he's not calling her). It always strikes me as weird becasue like I said, he seems normal [huh]

Could be an overactive thyroid.[huh]

Most people who are schizophrenic are harmless. I've only been actually scared once or twice, because the poor guy was a) really BIG and b) really ANGRY and that's a combination I don't have the skills to deal with on the subway on my way to school.

You can't "call the cops" on someone for being sick and walking down the street. C'mon.

A little old man, 80 if he was a day, did give me the nod on the subway one of those times. The "if he grabs you, I'll protect you" nod, and I was SO glad Mr. WWII Vet was not put to the test because I would have worried about him as much as he worried about me. [huh]

That is the whole point. These people can be dangerous to the public at large. Unless your siginificant other has ever been attacked by one of these people you just don't understand. They need to be on their medication just as we make sure that people who have TB and other highly communicative diseases are. In California, social services actually sends someone out to make sure people take their medicine for such communicative diseases. A friend of mine does it in fact. Their should be one for the mentally unstable as well.
You can call the police on these people and have a restraining order placed ont hem if necessary

I used to talk to myself a lot but I had this annoying habit of interrupting and I was all, like, so okay fine, so I have to listen to me all the time, but I can't just shut up and listen to myself once in a while, like even just as a courtesy - I'm so rude! - anyway it got so bad I had to just stop talking to myself totally, in fact now, when I walk in a room, I completely ignore myself.

Sounds like this chap has Tourette's syndrome. Don't know if it can be successfully medicated. It can be scary. But arrest is certainly not the answer to diseases such as this. I think that is agreed upon - even by the police (don't have evidence, but they're certainly not arresting people as a matter of course any more).

but the voices told me to do it!!!....kind of afraid of one day seeing my dogs beheaded or something! They bark at this guy and fires off a series of cuss words and rambles on about who knows what...being alone sure doesn't help either...isn't this the stuff that scary movies are made out of?

Sounds like an appropriate response to barking dogs.

I wasn't even thinking about arresting the guy...just sort of makes you wonder if it's all harmless or not [huh] For the most part I know their harmless, so I don't worry about it, it's when they're cussing and really angry acting...don't exactly feel like their in a real sociable mood!

With all the jerkovs on cells babbling away constantly the homeless, seemingly wacko people talk to themselves because they don't want to lower themselves to chat with these "important and busy" captains of industy wannabes. More in touch with reality than the diarrhea mouths who are in their own little world to an extent the street crazies never were.

I am sorry if you have ever been in the position of having a loved on in harm's way, but ANYONE can be dangerous. You cannot, in a free society, arrest someone who might do something they haven't shown any sign of doing yet. Walking down the street yapping to yourself is not a crime.

"Well, ma'am, you look like the humorless type who might use a racial slur, and that's a hate crime!"

Also, vintage clothing wearers don't even know what year it is.

The case with my wife was in one of the "day care" facitlities for these people who were supposedly harmless to society. :eusa_doh: These people were allowed to wander the street even after it happened.
Going down the street talking to yourself is one thing but doing it every day, in the same spot is something else. That is compulsive behavior that needs modification. I have also been involved on the other end with the schizophrenic. Its really sad but not even the medicine helps. He just can't be responsible and no one will do anything. [huh]

In Chile, I saw a guy sit down at a restaurant, have a full meal, pay for it, and leave ... without ever once putting down his cell phone. One entire conversation! The man ordered his food by pointing at the menu's items. He ate with one hand while the other held up the cell phone. Whipped out his wallet with one hand, drew out the cash, and walked away ... still talking on the phone!

Most crimes are not committed by schizophrenics and most schizophrenics don't commit crimes. The main "crime" that these people are committing is making others feel uncomfortable. I can think of a lot worse things than that.

Incidentally, many of use here are probably regarded as pretty weird and eccentric by the general public. Its purely a difference of degree.....
