This ad is one of the most famous in Australian history, and is often used as an example of, shall we say, less sophisticated, attitudes to the original inhabitants that were prevalent 60 years ago. Pelaco shirts were one of the biggest manufacturers of menswear and the brand is considered an "icon" of our culture.
I'm sure semioticians and the like would have fun with this ad, but although attitudes to this type of thing never got to the book-burning stage, it's VERY rare to see the thing in its original form.
I'd probably be pilloried by the politically correct for displaying this in a local forum, but my way of looking at things is: it's only by looking back that you can see how far you've come.
