Bob, Great news!

Wish you and your family all the best in Ecuador.

MontecristiS Windows 2008

1.1 Version upgrade-standardized measuring of weavecounts.
The procedure remains the same.
Cut the 1x1 inch weavecounting window from this kind of paper http://www.graphpapertemplates.com which is dead on accurate with inches – works also for weave-count closeup photos.
Loungers living in System International (SI) countries with metric measurement units simply use the good old one-millimeter-grid paper.

Available in all office stores and saves you from getting caught while tearing out pages from your kids/grandkids math notebook.

The other rests at Sharpetoys. Lucky man.

Michael Jordan- has a 10,000 euro Panama which is particular for the brim's width and decorations in silver- apparently he is sporting that one
http://www.ewsonline.com/sports/jordan/pages/mjpic015.html
The size looks extra large even on Michael Jordan, the golden honey color suggests it is a vintage specimen and the price suggests that it has extra fine weave with extra high weavecount – should be over 1700-1800 wpsi - that is namely available at Panama Hatworks of Montecristi for some ??% of the mentioned price.

Carludovica palmata research

NO WORRIES YOU DONT HAVE TO SUBMERGE IN HARD SCIENCE.
THIS IS ONLY TO INDICATE THAT SCIENTISTS ARE DOING THEIR HOMEWORK – THEY RESEARCH THE PANAMA HAT PALM (ITS DISEASES, MOLECULAR BIOLOGY ETC.) WHICH IS ESSENTIAL. SO THEY DO THEIR JOB.

UNLIKE POLITICAL DECISIONMAKERS, DIPLOMATS AND APPARATCHIKS IN GENERAL, WHO
* ACCEPT THE MISNOMER OF THE COUNTRY SIGNATURE PRODUCT AS A GOD GIVEN AND CRY BIG TEARS ABOUT THE DECLINE OF A GREAT ART - HAVE THEY NEVER HEARD OF STATE PROPAGANDA AND CAMPAIGN? :rage:
* IGNORE THE CENTURIES OLD PRAXIS OF APPELLATION CONTROL http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Appellation_d'origine_contrôlée :rage:
* DO NOTHING IN THE DIRECTION OF GETTING THOSE FEW LEFT WEAVER VILLAGES AS UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE SITE - THE HUNGARIAN REGIME COULD DO IT BACK IN 1987 WITH AN IMPORTANT FOLKLORE VILLAGE http://whc.unesco.org/en/list/401 AND THE TOKAJ WINE REGION IN 2001 - IT WOULD GO WITH THE MANABI WEAVER REGION AS WELL http://whc.unesco.org/en/list/1063 :rage:
* MISSED THE CHANCE TO INITIATE A DEFINITIVE BOOK OR COMPREHENSIVE DOCUMENTARY FILM ON PANAMA HATS - THIS THREAD IS STUFFED WITH THE WORKS OF STRAY WRITERS, FILMMAKERS, TOURISTS, HATTERS, ETC. WHO DID THIS IN WHATEVER QUALITY INSTEAD :rage:
*WHO LEAVE UP PRESCRIPTION GLASSES, BASIC MEDICAL CARE, DENTIST CARE, CHILDRENS PLAYGROUNDS AND VILLAGE SCHOOLS*** UP TO SOME CHARITABLE FOREIGN HATTERS, THE EU OR WHOEVER:rage:
* DON'T TAKE ECONOMIC MEASURES IN THE DIRECTION OF SAVING THE TRUE INDIGENOUS FOLK ART OF THEIR OWN COUNTRY!!! BESIDES GIVING THAT CERTIFICATE OF THE BANCO CENTRAL TO THE MONTECRSISTI MASTER WEAVERS THEY COULD ATTACH A TAX FREEDOM OR SOME SUCH - !!!! :rage:

- YOU MIGHT GUESS WHERE THOSE BANANA REPUBLICANS STAND IN MY HIERARCHY - THEY WILL NEVER GET A PICTURE IN THIS THREAD - UNLIKE THOSE MOBSTERS Rev 3:16

THIS IS NOTHING PERSONAL - JUST BUSINESS, YOU KNOW. (Just to stick some of that famous political correctness on the end of my rant or wherever you like:p )

So, here comes the science part

Pathogen When the disease was first named Lethal Yellowing (Nutman & Roberts, 1955) it was thought to be a virus. In 1972 three independent laboratories, each using material sampled in Jamaica, simultaneously indentified MLO by transmission EM (Beakbane et al, 1972; Heinze et al, 1972; Plavsic-Banjac et al, 1972). Subsequently, Waters & Hunt (1980) revealed the three-dimensional form of the coconut MLO.
http://www.cicy.mx/dir_acad/cicly/pathogen.html
One of the primary groups defined by molecular classifications is the palm lethal (LY) yellowing group which was designated as group 16SrIV according to the RFLP-based classification scheme of Lee et al. (1998), and as subclade (vii) based on phylogenetic analysis of 16S rDNA sequences (Gundersen et al., 1994). Represented solely by a Florida strain of the LY phytoplasma in these earlier classifications, phytoplasmas associated with decline of coconut (strain LDY, Genbank Accesion No. U18753) and yellows disease of the cyclanth, ‘palma jipi’ (Carludovica palmata Ruiz & Pavon), (strain CPY, Accession No. AF237615), have since been identified and added to this group (Tymon et al, 1998; Cordova, et al., 2000).

So a great applause to the scientists:eusa_clap :eusa_clap :eusa_clap

Don't let the temple and the school

Woah, what does this do to your hat business. Will it be business as usual and you just ship from down there or are you getting out of the business. Does that mean I need to get my order in before you leave.[huh]

Panama hat in space

Soyuz capsule carrying Russian-American-Brazilian crew docks with space station
Front page / Science
04/01/2006 16:59

Marcos Pontes, Brazil's first astronaut, http://www.space.com/php/multimedia...t:+AP+Photo/Misha+Japaridze.+Click+to+enlarge.
has won the global attention that he feels his country deserved a century ago.

Pontes, who docked with Russian Cosmonaut Pavel Vinogradov and U.S. astronaut Jeffrey Williams at the international space station on Saturday, dedicated his flight to the memory of Brazilian inventor and aviator Alberto Santos Dumont http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Te000002.jpg.

Pontes planned to take with him a Panama hat used by Santos Dumont, the Brazilian who as all schoolchildren here learn was said to have invented the airplane but didn't get credit for it.

"At the moment of takeoff, I want to recall that 100 years ago another Brazilian took off, also outside Brazil, in France, for another important mission," Pontes told local media in an interview before his Soyuz TMA-8 took off Thursday from Baikonur cosmodrome in Kazakhstan, informs AP

Three Astronauts Return to Earth from Space Station

Sunday, April 09, 2006

Pontes, shown on TV seated in a chair outside the capsule, flashed a wide grin and gave a thumbs-up as his bulky spacesuit was removed. He was handed a Brazilian flag and a Panama hat that was pulled out of the capsule — apparently one that he had carried to the space station in tribute to Brazilian inventor and aviator Alberto Santos Dumont, to whom Pontes had dedicated his flight.

That Montecristi fino won the trip to the space - they are also officially space gear!:eusa_clap :eusa_clap :eusa_clap :eusa_clap

The Crossing of Antarctica
Commonwealth explorers conquer the last untraversed continent in a history-making trek from sea to sea across the South Pole
By Sir Vivian Fuchs

http://encarta.msn.com/sidebar_762503930/The_Crossing_of_Antarctica.html

"South Pole Sees Its First Panama Hat
As we approached, two Weasels met us, and there was our reception committee, headed by Ed Hillary, George Dufek, and some 30 others. For the occasion I wore my regular sledging kit of red snow boots, blue ski pants, and white turtle-neck sweater, but George Lowe outdid all of us when he emerged from his vehicle impeccably attired in antarctic gear topped off by a Panama hat. This curious object he had purchased in Madeira on the voyage south and had carefully preserved for this high moment."

The Gravedigger's Daughter
By Joyce Carol Oates
http://www.harpercollins.com/books/9780061236822/The_Gravediggers_Daughter/excerpt.aspx
Chapter One
„Chautauqua Falls, New York
One afternoon in September 1959 a young woman factory worker was walking home on the towpath of the Erie Barge Canal, east of the small city of Chautauqua Falls, when she began to notice that she was being followed, at a distance of about thirty feet, by a man in a panama hat.
A panama hat! And strange light-colored clothes, of a kind not commonly seen in Chautauqua Falls. „

Panama hat wrestles&more

http://www.cpol.net/tonyd/wwa.htm

The Main Event on March 27th was supposed to be Kevin Northcutt Vs. The One Man Gang in a falls-count-anywhere match, but OMG didn't show up. He was in town on April 23rd though. He wrestled Kevin Northcutt in a Weapons Match. I brought a Chain for them to use. Before the matches, OMG and "Sweet" Stan Sweetan did an autograph session at Mazzio's Pizza. A woman came up to OMG and said that she's been a fan for a long time, and Gang said "Please don't say you've been a fan since you were a little kid." I said "I remember you as Crusher Broomfield." I was behind OMG when I said that, and he turned around and gave me a really strange look and told me I had the wrong guy. I said "You were managed by Jim Cornette..." and he said "No." Then he said that I was right. I was worried. I asked him what "Panama Gang" was all about. Back in 1984, Dusty Rhodes broke OMG's leg, and OMG came back as a manager, complete with a Panama Hat. OMG has wrestled as One Man Gang, Panama Gang, Akeem The African Dream, and Crusher Broomfield.

It was always such fun as a teenie to listen to those explanations with the wrestlers...:p
