I have yet to find any communities based around the '60s that aren't just "mod" style fanatics. I can't stand super-skinny suits and low rise trousers. We get enough of that from the fashion companies today!

When you say 'mod', you are speaking of the youth English style of the early 60's? Like the Who's original look?

Yeah, that crazy London style with the extremely skinny everything and the gaudy women's dresses.

And scooters right? Scooters with 10 or 12 rear view mirrors. What was the name of that movie about mods, in fact it was a Who movie I think? And they had antagonists, they were rockers or greasers, something like that. Memory fades.

Haha. Well, I like scooters actually. Just not a lot of the fashion that the people who rode them wore. :p

Yes, scooters are fun. I sold all of my motorcycles, but I kept my Cushman scooter, with only 2 mirrors mind you, and have it in my father's garage. He puts it on the back of his his 32 ft camper trailer when traveling.

Now if I could jsut figure out how to merge Goth and Vintage into one, without coming across as a complete poseur for both.

Back in my day (cause I'm really old now) that was the idea behind goth: merging and doing what you wanted witout a thought to convention (and as long as it was black :D although I didn't ascribe to that all that much.)

I still go to the Church (goth club on Thursdays and Sundays in Dallas), and I still wear whatever I want. I have everything from victorian vamp gear, fetish gear and lolita junk, and most likely everything in between.

I wear my Civil War reneachment dress coat when I'm cold, and wear my shoes when I have to be out all day.

I wear my Victorian clothing to church, often without the bustles or petticoats.

My favorite blouse is in fact a replica of a bodice from the 1700's, complete with the lace sleeves and glittery brocade.

My "little back dress" was made in 1963 and belonged to my mother.

My "good" walking skirt is made from a pattern based off a Viking skirt, circa the 300's. (the gores were pretty.)

I often lounge in 1970's type bohemian clothes (I like them, don't really like the era.)

And I STILL have a flourescent green summer dress I wear from fabric bought in 1983 for ME (I had no taste even as an 8 year old.)

lol no worries, he is after all in the foreground. And thank you, I'm trying to resist the temptation to count down the days until he comes back home. It's still a pretty high number. Perhaps one day we'll run into each other :)

I could kind of see a 60's or 70's bb, but a 80's or 90's? I dunno. To me it's too close to really see as old. I mean I still wear some clothes and especially boots I've had since then. Other than computers and cell phones, I don't feel as though I live much different than I did then.

Laserdiscs? Schools still use those. (then again, one of my teachers still uses 16mm filmstrips from the '60s)

No these were different than laserdiscs. They had a hard shell sleeve that you slid into the machine, it was a laser of sorts. Then the machine extracted the disc inside the sleeve and spit the cover back out. The disc itself looked a lot like a record. I cant remember what they called them maybe it was the first generation laserdisc, I cannot recall. I know they are different than what other firends of mine have which they call laserdisc which looks like a large cd.

I was going to start a new "confession" thread, but it fits here.

I'm not a true "Golden Era" guy.

I like the clothes, and especially the hats, but I'm more of an Atomic Age guy, from the end of WWII through Kennedy. I like the kitch, especially if it is related to Florida, which was the kitch capitol of the world during the fifties. Luckily, well-dressed men in the fifties wore suits and fedoras also, so I can still dress well if needed, just with a skinnier tie. My ideal everyday attire would be more like a bowling shirt and porkpie than a 40's vintage suit, though.

I live in a house built in 1959, and am decorating it in that style. Good thing my grandparents never threw anything out, so I can decorate from their garage and attic.

I may not be this board's prime demographic, but I love it here anyway. A poster upthread asked about a board like this for 50's-60's, and I haven't seen one....at least one that wasn't a Rockabilly forum, and I'm not really into the rockabilly thing.

See...

Someone a long time ago...told me something that stuck with me...

there are 100% people....and there are more then 100% people.

The more then 100% folks pick up things along life...and -add- them to themselves....and rather then diluting what was there before...it just adds in.

So I used to be much more active in Goth lifestyle things, then I am now. Does that make me not interested in that, no long like the music....? No....

Same is true with places i have lived for a long while, I have lived in Brazil and England and picked up parts of what it means to be Brazilian and English. But it doesn't make me less american...it just adds in and makes me a 150% person....

or 175% ...or whatever...

Things are not exclusionary...they are additive.

Oops I meant to quote some one else. Quoted you by accident. I meant to quote happy film guy on page 3. On another board I am on, we use the upper quote button to add a quote to our post. Heres it is the lower, that always confuses me. Granted I could actually read my post to insure I quoted the right person. However, I am lazy and didn't.

Certainly didn't make any sense did it. lol

Trust me, you're not the only one! I'm more of a '50s/'60s girl myself, but I don't consider myself "rockabilly" (which to me is a genre of music anyway!) or mod (though my favorite type of clothing would probably be categorized that way), so I haven't really found any '50s or '60s boards where I'd fit in.

Also: Like Senator Jack, I would appreciate a little more courtesty toward mod styles. I know that's not really what this board is about, but there are people here who dig that look.

Courtesy toward -all- other subcultures and groups and styles should be an integral part of who we are. It's sad to see that it's not always happening, as the culture we all try to harken back to, was a courteous one.

We would expect that same courtesy given to us if we were out and about.
